For our first Beyond The Books feature, meet Haley Dorion, a senior studying Human Resource Management, currently working as an HR Intern at The Cafaro Company.
"From this internship, I have gained extensive knowledge of various HR functions. My team has allowed me to try tasks in different areas including screening resumes, scheduling interviews, and providing event logistics. I am extremely grateful to have interned with CAFARO for the past 4 semesters. They have provided me with so many opportunities to find what I am most passionate about as I begin my career in human resources." - Haley Dorion

In this week's segment of "Beyond The Books," a new series showcasing the professional and developmental journeys our students embark on outside of the classroom, we spoke with Cierra Anzelmo!
Cierra is a senior accounting major involved in various student organizations through WCBA, including the Student Information & Supply Chain Association and the Society for Human Resource Management. Additionally, Cierra serves as an officer in both SHRM and Beta Alpha Psi. Cierra completed an internship with Ohio Export Internship and is currently an Intern at Schroedel, Scullin & Bestic.
Cierra said, "Getting involved in the WCBA has helped mold me into the person I am today. It has opened countless doors and never fails to provide me with opportunities. My involvement enabled me to grow my skills and establish connections that would not have been possible otherwise. It has been instrumental in paving a career path that I am happy with. Welcome to this week's edition of Beyond the Books, where we get to showcase students who are on journeys of professional development outside of the classroom.
Meet Jason, a Senior Financial Management Track Major who is currently working as an Intern at Hunt Valve Company, and a previous intern with the Ohio Precurement Internship Program.
"My procurement internship through the Ohio Procurement Internship Program significantly impacted me and helped me bridge the theoretical concepts from class into practical application. I was able to gain hands-on insights into government contracting as well as honing skills in both negotiation and vendor management. This practical knowledge not only enhanced my academic understanding but also prepared me for real-world work experience post-graduation." - Jason Gibson

Welcome back to Beyond the Books, and meet Jazelle Artman. Jazelle is President of Lambda Pi Eta, a prestigious Communication honor society, and is currently an intern at Buhl Club in Sharon.

Meet Carly Land, a Junior Accounting Major, and our Beyond the Books feature for this week. Carly is currently an Intern at Packer Thomas and has high praises for her experience there:
“The team at Packer Thomas is more like a family. They don’t mind answering my questions or sitting down with me during the busy season to discuss any errors I may have made. I’ve gotten to learn how to do multiple tax returns, use various software packages and experience an audit. Outside of the office, Packer Thomas hosts various events for us to relax, decompress, and network. I have never looked forward to going to work as much as I do now.”

Zakria is a member of numerous campus organizations including; Student Investment Fund, Economics Club, Beta Alpha Psi, and International Business Organization. As a current Intern with Cerity Partners and Global Recovery Group, Zakria is has set himself up for success post graduation.
"WCBA has been an incredible resource for me to convert opportunities to achievement. The college goes beyond to support the student if one is willing to take advantage of opportunities which I did in many ways. My training as an intern at Cerity Partners and Global Recovery Group which was part of the Ohio Export Internship Program to currently participating in various competitions and projects like X-Culture in Florida and Atlanta, and the Student Investment Conference in New York City has helped me develop professionally. Additionally, my involvement in different clubs at WCBA secured more pathways for me to be successful. As a member of the Student Investment Fund, I got exposed to a lot of networking and internship opportunities along with a deep sense of learning about the industry outside of the classroom."
Congratulations Zakria! - Robert Druschel
Welcome back to Beyond the Books! Today, we would like to introduce Robert Druschel, a Telecommunications Sports Broadcasting Major who completed an internship with WFMJ-TV. Here is what Robert had to say about the internship experience:
"My internship at WFMJ provides experience behind the scenes of Sports Broadcasting. I interact with coaches from high school and college teams to see their progress during the current season. Dana Balash, sports director for WFMJ TV 21 News, has brought me in with open arms to learn about preparing content through the pre- and post-production phases for television broadcasting. Brittney Bissell and Matt Mergen, both sports anchors, and Dan Pushcar, sports videographer, also welcomed me by showing what they do at the station.
Robert, we cannot wait to see what else you do! - Annabelle Himes
Annabelle Himes is our Beyond the Books feature for this week. As a Human Resource Management major, Annabella has accomplished a ton in her time as YSU. Annabelle served as President of Beta Gamma Sigma and Student Nonprofit Leadership, as well as being a member of Society of Human Resource Management. All while managing her business, Heroes and Tiaras.

Keep working hard Annabelle! - Mya Caggiano
Meet Mya Caggiano, a Marketing Major who gained real-world experience as an intern for Simon Roofing.
Mya speaks highly of the experience she had with Simon Roofing: "Simon Roofing has granted me so much knowledge in the field of marketing. The courses I have completed at YSU prepared me for my internship, but actually putting those concepts to use firsthand at my job is where I believe I learned the most. I am so grateful to Simon Roofing and my amazing supervisors in the marketing department for all that they have taught me over the past year."

Rebecca Catlos is our feature for Beyond the Books this week. Rebecca Catlos has a long list of accomplishments and leadership roles that she held during her time at YSU. The Supply Chain Management Major served as Vice President of Student Information and Supply Chain Management, Beta Gamma Sigma, and the Women's Rugby Club, alongside being a member of Society for Human Resource Management and Sokolov Honors College.
"The WCBA has been instrumental in enhancing my professional skills and opening doors to diverse opportunities during my college years. Through WCBA internships, I gained valuable industry insights, honed my expertise, and immersed myself in a professional setting. This experience has shaped me into a more capable individual prepared to make a positive impact in my chosen career field. The WCBA has also fostered my passion for serving others, motivating me to join the Air Force to further dedicate myself to serving the community and country."

We have reached the final four in our Beyond the Books series! Meet Kyle Ferraro, a Journalism - Sports Information Media track major who completed an internship with the Youngstown Phantoms.
“For my Internship with the Youngstown Phantoms Hockey team, I am responsible for writing a postgame recap for every home game. I help conduct postgame interviews with the coaches and players, and quickly turn that into a write-up that goes onto the organization’s website. I also assist another intern with the social media pages. I have been making the intermission and final infographics that are posted on the social media pages.”
