Youngstown State University (YSU) recognizes and supports the operation of student media organizations as important media for communication to the university and as training laboratories for students. Official student media organizations include The Jambar (student newspaper), thejambar.com (news website), JambarTV (weekly video news), and Rookery Radio (internet radio station). Together, these media channels give students a voice and provide real-world experience in journalism, broadcasting, and digital storytelling.

The Jambar
Founded by Burke Lyden in 1931, The Jambar has earned nine Associated Press Collegiate Press honors. Published weekly during the spring and fall semesters, The Jambar is free for YSU students and faculty.

The Jambar TV
JambarTV is the broadcast arm of The Jambar. Since its launch in 2019, JambarTV has delivered weekly news broadcasts that align with the latest print editions, offering viewers timely and engaging coverage of campus and community events. The show is led by an executive producer who also serves as the managing editor of the paper, ensuring a seamless integration between print and video journalism.

Rookery Radio
