All About Dining on Campus

Discover a Fresh Approach to Campus Dining with AVI Fresh!

AVI Fresh continues to elevate the campus dining experience with a focus on quality, nutrition, and variety. For the fall semester, they’ve introduced several updates based on student, faculty, and staff feedback:

  • New Locations and New Menu Items – With the Kilcawley renovation in full swing, Dunkin’ and Stack’d have moved to the Cushwa Café in Cushwa Hall, and the Smoke and Fire Food Trailer has moved to the Maag Library! The Maag Café will now feature breakfast and hot lunch options, and Stack’d will feature all day breakfast in addition to their delicious sandwich and homemade soup options.
  • Campus Choice Live: Ghost Kitchen – Features a bi-weekly rotating menu packed with fan-favorite dishes, including nacho bowls, bento boxes, ramen bowls, flatbread pizzas, and more. Every two weeks, students choose the next featured cuisine by voting for their favorite concept. Cast your vote using the Vote for the Next Ghost Kitchen Menu link on this page or view live results in DeBartolo Hall. Order through Grubhub and pick up from the food lockers in DeBartolo Hall or Schwebel Café in Williamson Hall.
  • Freshly Introduced Fresh-To-Go – We have completely refreshed our Fresh-To-Go rotating menu with new wraps, sandwiches, salads, and a wide variety of microwaveable meals featured at the Cushwa Café, the Maag Café, the Schwebel Café, and Christman Dining Hall.
  • Daily Specials at Starbucks – Swing by the Maag Café or the Schwebel Café to try our daily Starbucks specials! Save big on your favorite drinks and enjoy your morning one sip at a time.
  • Station Vacations – Every Thursday for lunch, Christman Dining Hall will feature an authentic and delicious lunch from around the world.
  • Half-price Fridays at Christman Dining Hall for all YSU faculty and staff members will be offered every Friday throughout the ENTIRE semester. Your breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner will ALL be half-off!
  • Fresh from Home – Whether you're celebrating a birthday, welcoming a student on move-in day, sending encouragement during finals, or wishing them a speedy recovery, Fresh From Home delivers a thoughtful surprise right to campus. Place your order today!
  • Questions or Need Assistance? Text the Dining Team at 330-737-7900 with any questions, concerns, or feedback about your campus dining experience. Your feedback is completely anonymous, and we welcome your honest input.

Additional Information and Resources

The Penguin Pantry stocks donations of non-perishable, fresh, and frozen food items, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, and cooking utensils. This FREE resource exists to assist all members of our YSU Family who are working to make ends meet, between jobs, or simply in need of some assistance.

The Penguin Pantry & Career Closet is located on the third floor of DeBartolo Hall (Rooms 345 & 346) and is open on Fridays from 10am until 2pm during the semester. Those needing assistance outside of regular hours should contact the Office of the Dean of Students at dos@ysu.edu.

Find out how you can utilize, volunteer, or donate to the Penguin Pantry by visiting their webpage.

A Pete’s Points plan is a prepaid account allowing you to dine or snack on campus and at several locations near campus without using cash. Your YSU ID is your form of payment.  $1 of Pete’s Points = $1 of cash. Just swipe your card and go! OR use your virtual YSU ID, accessed through the YSU App for hands-free purchasing!

It just takes a few minutes to purchase Pete’s Points. Purchase them using your credit card through the YSU App or YSU Y Card Portal.

  • Access from the YSU App by selecting Virtual Y Card on the bottom of the page, then select the hamburger icon in the top left to Add Value Via Credit Card.
  • Access from the YSU Y Card Portal by selecting Meal Plan Change and Purchase and then Add Value Via Credit Card.

Points can be added at any time and as many times as you wish throughout the semester.

Pete's Points can be used at all campus dining locations and several off-campus restaurants. Visit the Time2Dine website and Dining Locations Where You Can Pay With Your Y Card for a list of participating locations.

Pete’s Points (not associated with a meal plan), never expire.

AVI Fresh is proud to support students observing Ramadan by offering flexible meal plan options that honor fasting practices.

Students participating in the program may use a meal swipe at dinner time to pick up a to‑go breakfast for the following morning, to be enjoyed before sunrise. Additionally, students may continue to use a to‑go box at dinner to package their evening meal for after sunset.

Please note the following program guidelines:

  • Ramadan meal service will not be available while Christman Dining Commons is closed for Spring Break.
  • A new form must be submitted for each week of Ramadan.
  • Forms must be submitted no later than noon on the Thursday before the order period to allow sufficient time for meal preparation.
  • Students will be charged a meal swipe for each ordered meal, even if the meal is not picked up.

For more information, please contact Rachael Walker at rwalker@avifoodsystems.com.

Our Penguin Family cares for one another and wants to ensure that every student has the resources they need to thrive. YSU's Swipe Out Hunger program is supported through monetary donations and generous students who have donated a portion of their leftover meal swipes to support fellow students experiencing short-term food insecurity.

If you require assistance, simply complete this Basic Needs Meeting Request form, and a staff member from the Office of the Dean of Students will reach out to you to discuss your circumstances and available resources.
