Youngstown State University partners with the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) for ordering, payment, and processing of official YSU transcripts. Phone and/or fax orders are not accepted.
- Official transcripts cannot be released if a financial or administrative hold exists. Contact the Penguin Service Center at onestop@ysu.edu or 330-941-6000 to check for holds on your account. Current students can check for holds in the Penguin Portal under Student Records; View Holds. Only holds that indicate “transcript” as process affected will delay a transcript.
- Students with a financial hold on their account, who are in need of an official transcript for employment reasons, should email records@ysu.edu. Email must contain your full name, your transcript order number, and a statement confirming that you are sending your transcript to a potential employer. Once this email is received we will send the transcript directly to the potential employer as entered in your transcript order. Please still contact 330-941-3133 to inquire about your student account hold.
- Current students can request transcripts be processed at a future date so the current term’s GRADES are posted. YSU does not hold for degree at this time. Please check to see if your degree has been posted to your transcript in the Penguin Portal BEFORE ordering a transcript. Your degree has been posted if you see the word AWARDED next your degree name and the Degree Date. If you see the word PENDING, SOUGHT, or HOLD your degree has not been posted and you should not order your transcript.
- Once you place your order it cannot be canceled and refunds are not issued; please check the recipient mailing address/email address for accuracy prior to submitting your order.
- Students who have any completed coursework prior to 1970 can only order a paper transcript.

Official Transcripts: An official transcript contains all academic coursework completed at Youngstown State University, including the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral level. Official transcripts can be printed on paper or sent as electronic PDFs.
Unofficial Transcripts: An unofficial transcript shows a student’s detailed academic history but is not certified by the University. It is typically not accepted by third-party agencies as it is not signed by the University Registrar but may be useful for examining your own record. Unofficial transcripts cannot be emailed or faxed.
- Current students and alumni who still have access to the Penguin Portal may view their unofficial transcript by logging into the Penguin Portal, find the Academic Records card, and then click on View Academic Transcript.
- Former students who attended YSU after 1990, without access to the Penguin Portal must complete a two-part process. Please allow 2-3 business days to receive access.
- Request access to your unofficial transcript.
- After receiving an email that you have received access, login to view your record.
- Former students who attended prior to 1990, please contact the Penguin Service Center at 330-941-6000 for further instructions.
Delivery Methods for Official Transcripts: YSU offers an electronic pdf transcript to students who attended after 1970, printed transcripts are mailed using US 1st-class mail (rush/next-business day delivery available for an additional fee), and in-person order/pick up. YSU does not fax transcripts.
Attachments: You can upload a maximum of 2 documents to each transcript order. Attachments are subject to review and approval by the Office of the Registrar. Acceptable attachments: transcript matching forms (ie CASPA, PTCAS, AACOMAS, OTCAS, AMCAS, GradCAS), transcript request forms for LSAC and AAMC. We do not attach: resumes, cover letters, or transcripts/documents issued by other institutions.
Processing: Processing time does not include delivery time for paper transcripts. Transcripts are not processed on days the University is closed or if classes are cancelled due to inclement weather. If the University’s delivery services office is closed paper transcripts cannot be mailed until they re-open.
Future Processing: Current students can choose to have their transcript processed at a later time to “hold for grades”. Release dates for hold for grades are found on YSU’s NSC ordering site. Current students can request transcripts be processed at a future date so the current term’s GRADES are posted.
If your degree has already been awarded or if all of your grades have been posted you should choose a “now-as is” transcript when placing your order for it to process immediately.
YSU Holds: If you have a financial or administrative hold you will be notified by email and/or at the time you place your order. You will have 30 days to resolve the hold. If your hold is not resolved in 30 days your transcript order will be canceled. Current students can check for holds in the Penguin Portal under Student Records; View Holds. Only holds that indicate “transcript” as process affected will delay a transcript.
After Placing Your Order: Once an order has been placed, you will not be allowed to change the recipient’s address (mailing address or email). You must place a new order with the correct address and pay all related cost. Refunds are not issued due to incorrect recipient information. Due to our automated order processing, once an order has been submitted it cannot be canceled.
Archived Records: If you attended YSU before 1970 you can only order a paper transcript which will be mailed; you cannot order an electronic PDF transcript.
Unofficial Academic Record: The unofficial academic record contains your courses, grades, credits, GPA, major, and certificates or degrees awarded. It does not have the University seal or the University Registrar’s signature.
- Current students and alumni who still have access to the Penguin Portal may print out their unofficial record at no charge by logging into the Penguin Portal, choosing Student Records, and then View Academic Transcript. If you have a hold on your account that prevents you from viewing your transcript in the Penguin Portal please contact the Penguin Service Center at onestop@ysu.edu. The Penguin Portal requires users to have their student login and password. For assistance with your password please contact the IT Service Desk at 330-941-1595.
- Unofficial academic records cannot be emailed or faxed by Records Services
