YSU's Excellence Training Center will provide related coursework in the manufacturing occupational sector including, OSHA 10, Certified Manufacturing Associate and Basic Measurement. Upon completion of this pre-apprenticeship, students may choose to go directly into Mahoning Valley Manufacturers Coalition (MVMC)’s Industrial Maintenance apprenticeship. This program is designed to take place over one academic school year. Students that complete this pre-apprenticeship will receive 12 points towards high school graduation.

The OSHA 10-Hour General Industry course is a basic safety training program that teaches workers about OSHA requirements and workplace hazards.
OSHA-10 will be held in person at the YSU Excellence Training Center. Students that successfully complete this course will receive a government issued OSHA-10 card. -
The SME Certified Manufacturing Associate (CMfgA), industry-recognized credential, demonstrates that an individual has foundational manufacturing knowledge. This Industry-driven certification demonstrates that the individual has a basic knowledge of manufacturing and covers fundamental topics such as shop math, assembly, maintenance, machining, inspection, and more. Students that successfully pass the exam will receive the CMfgA certification. Students will take this class online at their home school.

Basic Measurement-Using appropriate tools and techniques to measure product characteristics against established standards, such as using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other metrology equipment to verify dimensions and tolerances are within acceptable limits. This will be offered either in person, in a virtual, synchronous format or some combination of the two.

Work experience-students are required to visit a company and shadow someone in the advanced manufacturing field.

Students are required to attend a (virtual) office hour session once a week.
