#YSUnited

Youngstown State University and the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley are proud to work together to make an impact on our community. Our students, faculty and staff play an important role in United Way's work. And those who serve also grow from their experiences. We want to show you just how we are helping United Way impact children and families in the Mahoning Valley.

Student Experience

YSU student Anna Morgione serves as Community Fellow for United Way of Youngstown and Mahoning Valley. She shares how her experiences working with United Way have impacted her.

Working with United Way has helped me identify the needs of my own community. I learned the reality of families’ everyday struggles and how the United Way serves as a crucial resource to meet their basic needs. I learned how appreciative and grateful the Youngstown community is for the work that United Way does.

YSU students have helped to make an impact by delivering food to people in the Mahoning Valley. They have donated their time to help tutor middle school students with their homework through after school programs and assisted people with filing their taxes through the VITA program. YSU students serve as key mentors and inspirations in these young students' lives.

Being a Community Fellow has allowed me to realize the needs of my own community and develop ways I can make a difference. When I deliver groceries to residents of Youngstown, I witness how grateful and appreciative they are for even a small act of kindness. It made me realize the true impact of giving back. Connecting with the YSU students has allowed me to inspire and motivate others to volunteer. The work that United Way does cannot be possible without hands-on help of their volunteers, and I’m glad that YSU plays a crucial role in their mission.
