Bio
Trombonist Andrew Mitchell is in demand as an orchestral and chamber musician, soloist and clinician. He joined the faculty of Youngstown State University in 2018. He is the principal trombonist of the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, the second trombonist of the Canton Symphony Orchestra, and a member of Spectrum Brass. Mitchell has performed with The Cleveland Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings, the Detroit Opera Orchestra, the Brass Band of Battle Creek, the Motor City Brass Quintet, CityMusic Cleveland, and the orchestras of Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Toledo, Tallahassee, Ann Arbor, Flint, Akron, Lansing, and Erie. He previously held positions in the Sinfonia Gulf Coast, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Midland Symphony Orchestra, and the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra. Appearances as a soloist and/or clinician have included the Big 12 Trombone Conference, the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts (Brno, Czech Republic), the Kroměříž Conservatory (Kroměříž, Czech Republic), the Jan Deyl Conservatory (Prague, Czech Republic), the Prague Conservatory, the University of Michigan, Western Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University, the University of Southern Mississippi, Texas Tech University, Oberlin Conservatory, the W.D. Packard Concert Band, and numerous engagements with the Youngstown State University Wind Ensemble. Summers, he is an Artist-in-Residence at the Bay View Music Festival. Mitchell earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan. He was previously Assistant Professor of Trombone at Ball State University.
