Bio

Professor Amy Copeland has an MFA in Visual Communication Design and an MS in User Experience Design from Kent State University. She earned her BS in Graphic Design from The University of Cincinnati. She is a practicing graphic and user experience designer with over 20 years of experience, ranging from a small design studio to a large publication house, a nationally recognized advertising agency, and an innovation-focused research firm.

As an educator, Copeland is passionate about typography, page layout, and preparing her students for real-world experiences they will discover in the field upon graduation. She understands the importance of critique and loves working with students to explore different ideas and creative avenues of visual expression. Copeland embraces the concept of “always learning” and spends her free time exploring different methods of expressing creativity in fiber arts and analog photography. She enjoys going out into the world and capturing images on her Polaroid and medium-format cameras. She is currently working on a body of work weaving the alphabet using unique letterforms and color combinations.

Before joining the faculty at Youngstown State University, Professor Copeland held part-time faculty positions at the University of Akron, Kent State University and Cleveland State University, and a full-time position at Lakeland Community College.
