YSU Jazz Ensemble pays tribute to Martin Berger, Chuck Mangione and Eddie Palmieri; new music from graduate student Andrea Richard

The YSU Jazz Studies Area presents the Jazz Ensemble directed by Kent J. Engelhardt in Ford Theater of Bliss Hall at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 20.

The concert will open with "Now's The Time" by Charlie Parker, as arranged by Dave Morgan, as a tribute to longtime WYSU jazz radio host and YSU history professor Dr. Martin Berger.

A tribute to Chuck Mangione, one of the initiators of the YSU Jazz Scholarship known as the Tony Leonardi Jazz Scholarship, will follow with "Feels So Good" and "Land of Make Believe." Elizabeth Jadue will sing vocals for the Mangione compositions. In addition, Jadue will sing "My Shining Hour" as arranged by YSU alumnus David Lalama. "Dedication" by Thad Jones will serve to introduce Stephen Enos, YSU's new jazz trumpet instructor.

The Jazz Ensemble will premiere a new arrangement of "Miami" by Lucky Chops as arranged by graduate student Andrea Richard. The ensemble will close the concert with "Definitely In" as a tribute to the late Latin Jazz innovator Eddie Palmieri.
