Four Youngstown State University students placed second at the 2018 NASBITE International Student Case Competition.

The students are Fabio Bassil of Boardman, Mariah Carna of New Wilmington, Pa., Adam Hauser of Andover and Joseph Scott of Cortland. Under the guidance of Omer Genc, assistant professor, Marketing, in the Williamson College of Business Administration, the student group presented its case analysis and international marketing plan at the 31th annual NASBITE International Conference in Baltimore, Md.

"Participating in the NASBITE Student Case Competition helped develop my skills in analyzing international markets for a global corporation. I got the opportunity to showcase my Certified Global Business Professional Certificate throughout this case," said Carna. "The proficiencies developed in this competition including case analysis, market selection and entry strategies were beneficial for our YSU student team.”

The NASBITE International Student Competition brings the best business students together to work on solutions to an international marketing challenge submitted by Otto Environmental Systems. Otto Environmental Systems, a manufacturer of waste management containers operating in Charlotte, N.C., is looking to expand globally, focusing on the South American market. Teams were to analyze South American countries and pick one to focus their entry strategy and marketing strategy on. YSU’s team developed an international marketing plan for the company in the Chilean market. Otto Environmental Systems began as a European company in 1934 originating in Germany but sold the German offices seven years ago to focus on the U.S. market.
