Wind Ensemble's outdoor concert celebrates "Movie Magic"

Due to possible rainy and chilly weather, tonight’s YSU Wind Ensemble Concert, “Movie Magic,” originally scheduled for outdoors at Harrison Common, has been moved indoors to Ford Theater in Bliss Hall, at 7:00 p.m.

The Dana School of Music’s Wind Ensemble performs an outdoor “Movie Magic” concert 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, on Harrison Common Field on Walnut Street, across from the MVR restaurant.

The free movie-themed pops concert includes George Gershwin’s “Strike Up The Band”; “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” by Michael Kamen; John Mackey’s “The Sheltering Sky”; “Wizard of Oz Medley” arranged by James Barnes; Leonard Bernstein’s “Mambo” from West Side Story; the “Armed Forces Salute” arranged by Robert Lowden and “Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa.

“Harrison Common is an outstanding venue for this music and the YSU Wind Ensemble is enthusiastically looking forward to performing under the open sky in our first concert of the semester,” said Stephen Gage, director.

Patrons are invited to bring a lawn chair and. No alcohol is permitted. In the event of inclement weather, the rain location is Room 2326 in Bliss Hall.

Parking is available in the M30 Wick Avenue deck via Walnut Street (GPS address is 100 Wade Street, Youngstown OH 44502) for a nominal fee. Patrons are advised to watch for posted detours as construction progresses on Wick Avenue. More information available by calling 330-941-2307.
