University Theatre opens Spring with virtual dance performance

Dance concert

“Now You See Us…An Evening of Virtual Dance,” University Theatre’s first show of Spring semester, opens Thursday, March 25 with additional shows Friday and Saturday, March 26 and 27.

Virtual performances are at 7:30 p.m. each day, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday. There are no Sunday performances.

The production is available here. Tickets may be purchased at the same link: $10 for a single viewer, $25 for group viewing/watch party, and free for YSU students, faculty and staff.

Under the artistic direction of Visual and Dramatic Arts faculty member Amy A. Wright, the concert features original work by faculty choreographers Erianne Raib-Ptichkin, D. Abbey Alter and Wright, as well as 18 student dancers.

“The students have done an amazing job embracing the challenges of working together safely and responsibly through this season; we're all just very grateful to be moving together and to be able to do what we love,” Wright said.
“There is so much variety in the styles, the energy and the themes in the dances this year. In the midst of all of the challenges that face the arts right now, the faculty choreographers have looked at this as an opportunity to flex our creative muscles in new ways and approach the process of making dances in ways that we can't do in a traditional concert setting.”

The concert was filmed primarily on the Ford Theatre stage in Bliss Hall on the YSU campus; however, dancers were also captured in settings around campus and in the Youngstown area, allowing the opportunity to see new perspectives of dances that one couldn't see from a seat in a traditional theater.
