Spring 2022 STEM Expo, Feb. 24; National Engineering Week, Feb. 21-25

Duct-taping classmates to the wall, racing drones and designing paper airplanes are among the competitions scheduled as the Rayen School of Engineering at Youngstown State University celebrates National Engineeers Week Feb. 21 to 25 on the YSU campus.

The weeklong celebration also includes the Spring 2022 STEM Expo, noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, in Stambaugh Stadium, featuring more than 70 employers discussing careers, internships and co-ops. The expo, which will be held both virtually and face-to-face, is open to YSU STEM students and STEM-related alumni. More information, 330-941-2151 or stem.jobs@ysu.edu.

The semi-annual expo is hosted by the STEM Professional Services Careers, Internships & Co-ops office in the YSU College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Also on the schedule for Engineers Week is a forum 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 23, with practicing engineers from Ultium Cells, Novelis, Gardiner, MS Consultants and Altronic answering questions about internships and co-ops. The forum is in the Jones Room of Kilcawley Center.

The week also includes daily competitions, 1 to 4 p.m. in the Lobby of Moser Hall on campus: Monday, Feb. 21, Duct Tape a Friend; Tuesday, Feb. 22, Retaining Wall; Wednesday, Feb. 23, Drone Race; Thursday, Feb. 24, Loadmaster Simulation; Friday, Feb. 25, Paper Airplane.

On Tuesday, Feb. 22, the Order of the Engineer Youngstown Chapter hosts its annual ring ceremony 5:30 p.m. in Williamson Hall on campus. The keynote speaker is Col. Theresa Schlosser, commander of the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center, who will talk about the importance of teamwork and leadership in engineering.
