Pulitzer Prize-winning historian to present Skeggs Lecture Series

Tickets are available to see Pulitzer Prize-winning American biographer and historian Doris Kearns Goodwin present in Youngstown State University’s Skeggs Lecture Series. Goodwin will present the lecture on Sept. 25 at 6:30 p.m. in Stambaugh Auditorium.

Goodwin has received recognition for her literary accomplishments throughout her career. She was awarded with a Pulitzer Prize in history for her book, “No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II.”

In Spring 2024, Goodwin’s eighth book, “An Unfinished Love Story: A Personal History of the 1960s”, became a New York Times bestseller.

With her specialized knowledge on presidents Lyndon B. Johnson, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, as well as the Kennedy family, Goodwin has been a go-to consultant for decades and has been interviewed for Ken Burns’ “Baseball” and “The Roosevelts: An Intimate History.” She has also worked with Laski’s Pastime Productions on the documentary miniseries “Washington” for the History Channel.

The Skeggs Lecture was established in 1966 in memory of the late Leonard T. Skeggs Sr. Skeggs came to Youngstown in 1919 as educational secretary of the YMCA. In 1924, he became general secretary, a position held until his death in 1933. It was Skeggs who prompted Howard W. Jones to become the first president of the university. The lecture series brings prominent speakers to YSU to engage the university and surrounding community in discussions about diverse fields such as science, sports, business, history and the arts.

Admission to the presentation is free, but tickets are required. Tickets are currently available at the Stambaugh Auditorium box office or online at the Stambaugh Auditorium website.
