Pipino Performing Art Series continues with jazz singer and pianist Kate Reid

The Donald P. Pipino Performing Arts Series, hosted by Youngstown State University, continues with Kate Reid Friday, March 3 at 7:30 PM in the YSU Ford Theater, located in Bliss Hall on the campus of Youngstown State University

A northeast Ohio native, Reid will perform songs from “The Great American Songbook,” which features some of the most influential American popular songs and jazz standards from the early 20th century, including those that were created for Broadway, musical theatre, and Hollywood musical film.

Reid is a faculty member of the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music. She is an associate professor of jazz voice in the studio music and jazz department and is the director of jazz vocal performance. Reid earned a bachelor of music in jazz studies from Western Michigan University and a master of music and doctorate in musical arts in jazz vocal performance from the University of Miami.

Reid is a featured performer presented by the Miami Jazz Co-op and has worked with many of the great jazz musicians in southern California. As an international jazz singer and pianist, she appears as a duo and with her trio and quartet at jazz venues in the Los Angeles and Miami areas. She can be heard performing with multiple Miami musicians, including trumpet player John Daversa and his Progressive Big Band. Reid’s latest CD, “The Love I’m In,” features tenor saxophonist Ernie Watts and pianist Otmaro Ruiz. Like her release “Sentimental Mood,” “The Love I’m In” features tunes from “The Great American Songbook” and has received extensive airplay on jazz radio stations throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and South Africa.

Reid is a working studio/session singer in Los Angeles. Her film credits include “Tinkerbell: Legend of the Neverbeast,” “StarTrek Into Darkness,” and “Men in Black III,” among others. She has lent her voice to network television series, commercial spots, and backing vocals for artists such as MUSE, X Japan, and Josh Groban. Reid also co-authored the “GLEE Vocal Method & Songbook” with producer and author Andy Waterman..

Adult tickets are $20. Special rate tickets are $15 for non-YSU students, YSU faculty and staff with valid ID, YSU alums, senior citizens, Penguin Club members, and groups of eight or more.
