Gowns and Sounds: Alumni lectures set for Nov. 5, 12

Successful alumni in the worlds of fashion and music share their career journeys as part of the Youngstown State University Alumni Lecture Series in November.

  • Angel RiveraThursday, Nov. 5, 7 p.m. Angel Rivera, a 2003 graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising, bridal gown designer and owner of Angel Rivera Couture, presents "A Dream and the Perseverance to Make it into a Reality”. YSU President Emeritus Dr. Cyndy Anderson, a mentor to Rivera, will moderate the lecture. Rivera has worked with top fashion houses, including Amsale, Kenneth Pool, Christos, Kirstie Kelly and the world-famous Kleinfeld. He also continued his studies in pattern making at the prestigious Parsons School of Design.
  • Jason MoncriefThursday, Nov. 12, 7 p.m., Jason Moncrief, who earned a bachelor’s degree in Tuba and Flute Performance in 2002, presents "Carving a New Performance Path: The Modern Day Performer." The lecture will be moderated by Jaietta Jackson, senior lecturer in the Department of Communication. Moncrief has been an associate for the New World Symphony and the Chicago Civic Orchestra on tuba and was principal flute for the Center Stage Opera in Los Angeles. He served as principal flute and associate conductor of NYC Renaissance Chamber Collaborative and also performed as flutist for the national and international tours of Disney's Broadway hit "Beauty and the Beast.” In addition, he performed with the Tony and Emmy Award winning show "BLAST" nationally and internationally.
