Seven faculty members in Dental Hygiene have authored chapters in a new comprehensive dental hygiene textbook, titled Dental Hygiene: Applications to Clinical Practice and published by F.A. Davis. Chapter titles and the faculty authors are: “Exposure and Infection Control” by Maureen Vendemia, professor emeritus, Dental Hygiene, and Suzanne Smith, assistant professor, director and clinic coordinator; “Hard Tissue Examination” by Diane Kandray, professor, Dental Hygiene; “Biofilm, Calculus and Stain,” by Silvia Stefan, assistant professor and director, Allied Health; “Dentifrices and Mouth Rinses” by Jennifer Pieren, part-time faculty; and “Esthetics” by Ruth Palich, assistant professor and clinic coordinator, and Mechee Thomas, part-time faculty.Mustansir Mir, professor, Philosophy and Religious Studies, has been invited to serve as a key presenter at the International Muslim-Christian Congress on Mercy at the Pontifical Institute for the Study of Arabic and Islam. The conference was organized on the recommendation of Pope Francis and will feature a number of internationally renowned scholars. Organizers selected Mir to participate in a session on Quranic Studies, and the Congress will devote special attention to the place of mercy in the Islamic tradition.

Jake J. Protivnak, associate professor and chair, Counseling, Special Education and School Psychology, was awarded the 2016 Counselor Educator of the Year award in April by the Ohio Association of Counselor Education & Supervision. The award recognizes consistent excellence in teaching and training in counseling, counselor education, and counseling supervision. The honor was presented at the Spring OACES Conference on the campus of Ohio State University.Jill Tall, associate professor, Biological Sciences, was an invited speaker at the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians annual spring seminar, held in Scottsdale, Ariz. Tall presented a two-hour seminar, entitled “An Introduction to Clinical Biostatistics.”Lucy Kerns, assistant professor, Mathematics and Statistics, has authored two articles that have been accepted for publication. The first, titled "Construction of Simultaneous Confidence Bands for Multiple Logistic Regression Models over Restricted Regions," will be published in the journal Statistics: A Journal of Theoretical and Applied Statistics. The second, titled "A Note on Range Regression," has been accepted forpublication by the Journal of Applied Probability & Statistics. The paper provides a new data analysis technique in seeking the linear pattern between two variables.Brett Conner, associate professor, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, and director, Advanced Manufacturing Workforce Initiatives, was a speaker and panel discussion participant at a seminar, titled “What Every Business Must Know Today about 3D Printing,” in April at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Cleveland. Rodrigo Enriquez Gutierrez, a YSU graduate student and factory engineer at America Makes, also participated in the seminar.
