Dana Symphony, Jazz Ensembles kick-off concert seasons

Youngstown State University’s Dana Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Ensembles open their 2018-19 seasons this week.

The Jazz Ensembles performs 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center on campus. The free, public concert features music by YSU Dana School of Music alumni Mike Kamuf, David Lalama and Jerry Ascione. The ensemble led by Dave Kana will perform music by Thad Jones, Herbie Hancock, Kenny Dorham, and Sammy Nestico. Two of the arrangements were written by Kamuf. 

The Dana Symphony Orchestra performs 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018 in Powers Auditorium in downtown Youngstown. The orchestra, which numbers close to 60, starts the concert with Leonard Bernstein's Overture to Candide in celebration of Bernstein's 100th birthday, followed by Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 in E Minor. Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for students and senior citizens, and free for anyone with a valid YSU ID.
