Dana concert April 17 features "Star Wars Trilogy"

“Star Wars & Other Scores,” a concert featuring the Youngstown State University Dana School of Music Concert Band, Brass Ensemble and Wind Ensemble, is 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Stambaugh Auditorium.

The concert opens with the Brass Ensemble performing Gabrieli's Canzon Duodecimi Toni and movement 5, "Lord Melbourne", from Grainger's classic, Lincolnshire Posy. The Concert Band follows with a work by McBeth, They Hung Their Harps in the Willows, in tribute to recently deceased YSU Dana School Professor of Percussion Emeritus, Joseph Parlink. Ticheli's Vesuvius and Roland Seitz's March Grandioso will also be performed. The Wind Ensemble performs Jan Bach's Helix for Alto Saxophone and Chamber Octet featuring YSU Dana Professor of Saxophone, Dr. James Umble. The group will then perform Persichetti's Psalm for Band and Grainger's Irish Tune from County Derry. The concert concludes with John Williams’ epic Star Wars Trilogy as set for wind ensemble by Donald Hunsberger.

James Umble

Featured soloist James Umble, professor of Saxophone at Dana, is an internationally-recognized teacher, clinician, soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. He has frequently appeared in concert with members of the Cleveland Orchestra in the chamber music group “The Cleveland Duo and James Umble”.
