Cliffe College events for the Week of April 24th

Concerts, lectures and recitals fill the calendar for the week of April 24 at in YSU’s Cliffe College of Creative Arts.

  • Monday, April 24, faculty members Andrew Mitchell (trombone) & Cicilia Yudha (piano) present the Dana School of Music Faculty Recital featuring works by Hildegard of Bingen, Defaye, Tomasi, Schumann and Bozza. The recital begins at 6 p.m. and will take place at the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, 201 Wick Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44503.
  • Tuesday, April 25 at 2 p.m. in room 3026 of Bliss Hall, Stephanie Ruozzo presents a Dana Lecture: “A Younger School: 21st-Century American Opera and the New Verismo.” Ruozzo is the director of Education and Engagement for the Cleveland Opera Theater. She holds a Ph.D. in Musicology from Case Western Reserve University.
  • Tuesday continues with the Dana Wind Ensemble Pops Concert at 7:30 p.m. Directed by Michael Butler, student conductors will present an evening full of favorite selections in the Ford Theater in Bliss Hall.
  • Wednesday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m., the Composition Studio will present world premieres of new compositions by eight Dana School of Music student composers. Enzo Chiodi, Mason Ciesielski, Jesse Crownover, Sean Cutshaw, Matthew Ferrence, Nick Grabigel, Aidan Plank and Aaron White are the composers having new works performed.
  • Thursday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m., the Guitar Studio recital by YSU guitar students will include guitar solos, guitar duos, and guitar with bass, featuring music by The Beatles, J.S. Bach and numerous jazz composers in the Bliss Recital Hall.
  • Friday, April 28, at 7:30 pm, a joint concert featuring the YSU Choirs and Thiel College Choirs will take place in Bliss Recital Hall. Seven ensembles, led by Brianne Samson and Abe Gibson in partial fulfillment of their graduate degrees in Conducting, present an array of choral works by Arcadelt, Handel, Brahms, Lauridsen and many others.

All performances are free and open to the public. Parking is available most conveniently in the Wick Avenue Parking Deck (M30), : 453 Wick Avenue Youngstown, Ohio, 44502 for a $5 fee payable in cash only. To easily access Bliss Hall, patrons should park on the third level of the Wick Deck and use the sidewalk behind the McDonough Museum.
