Penguin Mates at Youngstown State University

Since 2013, Y Magazine has been featuring married YSU couples in our popular “Penguin Mates” column since 2013.

Kevin Chapel and Emily Mogg Chapel
Kevin Chapel, 2009, AAS, Criminal Justice and 2016, BGS, and Emily (Mogg) Chapel, 2014, BGS, and 2017, MS, Criminal Justice, were married Oct. 19, 2018. She is a deputy clerk of courts for the Mahoning County Juvenile Court in Youngstown, and he is a sergeant for the YSU Police Department. The couple met at YSU in Spring 2014 while working at the YSU Police Department. They currently reside in Boardman.

Sara Paloski Dunlap and Tanner Nunlap
Sara (Paloski) Dunlap, 2007, BA, Biology, and Tanner Dunlap, 2006, BSAS, Mechanical Engineering, were married Feb. 24, 2019 in Peninsula, Ohio, at Happy Days Lodge in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. He is a major in the Ohio National Guard, and she is a supervisor for the Department of Defense in the finance and accounting sector. The couple resides in Ravenna, Ohio. A mutual friend and fellow alumnus Ryan Martino, 2004, introduced the couple five years ago.

Ian Friend and Shelby Reigelman Friend
Ian Friend, 2016, BS, History, and Shelby (Reigelman) Friend, 2016, BS, Education were married July 6, 2019, in Hubbard. The couple started dating in high school and decided jointly to continue their journey as students at YSU. He is a project coordinator for SAS Builders, and she is a teacher in Roanoke. The couple resides in Christiansburg, Va.

Marquis Brown and Brittany Lewis Brown
Marquis E. Brown, 2012, BS, Psychology and Brittany Lewis Brown, 2011, BS, IWU, AS, Hospitality Management, were married Oct 27, 2018 in West Chester, Ohio. After a honeymoon in Hawaii, the couple resides in Austintown. He works for YSU as the Rec. Athletic Facility Specialist, and she works at Cintas Corporation in Mason, Ohio. The couple had classes together at YSU and their friendship began after graduation.

Daniel Antonucci and Victoria (Farris) Antonucci
Daniel Antonucci, 2014, BE, Civil Engineering and Victoria (Farris) Antonucci, 2014, BSN, Nursing and 2019, MSN, Nursing Education were married June 1, 2019 at St. Maron’s Maronite Catholic Church in Austintown. They met at YSU their freshman year. He works as a professional civil engineer in the asset management department at Duquesne Light in Pittsburgh. Victoria is a team lead RN at Mercy Health in Boardman. They currently reside in Poland.

Catherine Carney English and Matthew English
Catherine Carney English, 2014, BA, Political Science and Mathematics, and Matthew English, 2014, BE, Mechanical Engineering, were married Oct. 20, 2018 in Poland. The two met at YSU in fall 2010; both were freshman in the University Scholars program. They live in Columbus, Ohio. Catherine is an Assistant Attorney General at the Ohio Attorney General's Office. Matthew is a project engineer at AutoTool Inc.

Damon Haught and Dawn Haught
Damon Haught, 2008, BSE, Education-Mathematics, and 2010, MS, Mathematics, and Dawn Haught, 1991, BSE, Secondary Education, and 1997, MS, Mathematics, were married in 2005 in Las Vegas. He currently teaches full-time at LaBrae High School and part-time at YSU, and she teaches at Trumbull Career and Technical Center in Warren. They currently live in Cortland.

Kevin Abramski and Alicia (Stanley) Abramski
Kevin Abramski, 2009, BS, Business Administration, and 2016, MBA, and Alicia (Stanley) Abramski, 2010, BA, Anthropology, and 2014, MSEd, Counseling were married in Nashville, Tenn. in 2017. They met as undergraduates in the summer of 2004 working at Buffalo Wild Wings in Boardman. He is a distribution coordinator for Solvay, a major international chemical manufacturing company, and she is a part-time instructor and full-time Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor at Marietta College. They reside in Marietta, Ohio.
