Hardware & Software

Hardware:

Audio/Visual Equipment:

IT Customer Services (ITCS) is dedicated to outfitting YSU academic spaces with consistently configured, fully functional permanent multimedia equipment. Standard configuration includes cameras for 3D projection and encoding, multi-source video playback, sound amplification, desktop computing or connections for your laptop and a user friendly touch screen controller. To date over 220 such spaces have been outfitted.

Desktop Computers:

Standard, fully supported desktop computers for YSU faculty and staff are available pre-configured and off the shelf by placing a work order with the IT Service Desk. Dell and Apple (Macintosh) computers are available in several configurations and your approved computer request will be charged back to your department based upon the configuration selected. Additional YSU supported software can be added to the base configuration in most cases by listing the supported software on your computer request work order.

Desktop computers for use in YSU computer labs/classrooms are typically purchased per quotes provided and approved by Campus Technology Support (CTS). CTS will assist with computer requirements and obtain quotes for you upon receiving your work order request placed with the IT Service Desk.

Mobile Computing:

Standard, fully supported laptop computers for YSU faculty and staff are available pre-configured and off the shelf by placing a work order with the IT Service Desk. Dell and Apple (Macintosh) computers are available in several configurations and your approved computer request will be charged back to your department based upon the configuration selected. Additional YSU supported software can be added to the base configuration in most cases by listing the supported software on your computer request work order.

YSU Information Technology Services is continually working to better support your personal mobile technology needs. Current initiatives related to improved mobile computing are available on the ITCS Services page.

Printers:

In response to the State of Ohio Governor's Task Force on Affordability and Efficiency in Higher Education YSU promotes the use of electronic documentation whenever and wherever feasible and secure. As such the purchase of printers and related supplies by any department except Technology Maintenance Services (TMS) is prohibited. TMS has been charged with reducing the count of printers on campus as well as significantly reducing the cost of printing supplies. This charge addresses not only the task force initiative but also recognizes the need for cleaner and greener use of technology as well as student preference for mobile devices over paper. Additionally this approach is supportive of the YSU Walk to Wellness campaign.
