Youngstown State University offers a variety of summer programs for K–12 students designed to inspire learning, creativity, and exploration. From academic camps to hands-on experiences and enrichment opportunities, students can discover new interests, build skills, and connect with the YSU community.
Cliffe College of Creative Arts
Youngstown State University’s University Theatre Summer Camp offers an immersive week-long program, typically held in June, where middle and high school students (approximately ages 13-18) develop acting, voice, and technical theatre skills through workshops, hands-on activities, and a final showcase performance.
STEM
Youngstown State University’s STEM Summer Research Program offers a competitive, approximately seven-week summer experience (typically June–August) where high school seniors and incoming freshmen gain hands-on research experience with faculty mentors, earn college credit, and may receive a stipend.

The YSU Williamson Innovation Park, located in Canfield, offers hands-on STEM summer camps for rising 5th-8th graders and day camps during the school year for 4th-6th graders. School and group field trips for all grade levels are also available year-round by request.
Campus Rec
Pete & Penny Days at Youngstown State University’s Campus Recreation is a summer youth day-camp program featuring fun activities and games offered on select weekdays in June and July for children/youth (campers), ages 5-12, through the Campus Recreation department.
Office of Community Engagement
The YSU Explore Program, offered by Youngstown State University’s Office of Community Engagement, provides a four-week summer initiative and a 30-week after-school program designed to build academic skills, career awareness, and community connection typically during summer and the school year for students in grades 1–12.
TILT
The Tressel Institute’s Summer Leadership Institute at Youngstown State University is a three-day summer program offered to local high school juniors and seniors to build leadership, communication, and teamwork skills through hands-on workshops and group activities.

Honors
YSU’s Summer Honors Institute is a four-day summer academic program offered in July that lets academically motivated high school students who will be in grades 9–11 during the upcoming school year explore a range of college-level topics on campus.

Office of Experiential Learning and Engagement
YSU S.C.O.P.E. (Summer College/Occupational Preview Experience) is a pre‑college enrichment program offered during the academic year with a one‑week summer residential component, designed for junior‑level high school students to prepare for college through admissions, career exploration, and academic skill development.

YSU STEM Outreach & Scholarships offers K‑12 STEM outreach events and field trips during the academic year and scholarship opportunities for incoming and current STEM majors, engaging young learners through activities and supporting funding to pursue STEM education.
