Master of Social Work

The 60 semester hour Master of Social Work (MSW) professional program includes theoretical and applied courses in social work and internship engagements under the supervision of professional social workers in regional social service agencies. The program emphasizes advanced social work practice with individuals and families, the client strength’s perspective, and social services leadership. Courses are available at the Holden University Center weekday evenings and Saturdays. The three year curriculum includes coursework the first year and coursework and internship engagement the second and third years of the program.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • An undergraduate degree, preferably in a social science from an accredited college or university;
  • An unrecalculated cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above in all undergraduate courseswork;
  • Work or volunteer experience related to preparation for professional social work practice;
  • Three letters of recommendation completed on official forms. Recommendations should include one academic source, one professional source, and one additional source from either of the aforementioned;
  • A professional statement reflecting how completion of the MSW will impact on the applicant’s goals and
  • objectives;
  • An optional personal interview and or additional information as requested by the program’s admission committee.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR

Students are entered in the MSW program once a year in the Fall semester only. YSU follows a 16 week semester calendar August to May.

Textbooks will be available in the Lakeland Community College Bookstore or online at YSU Bookstore.
