Symptoms of the flu have included fever, headache, body aches, stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.

  • If you are sick with a flu-like illness stay home from work and school, and avoid contact with other people. The CDC recommends you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone with the only exception being to leave to get medical care. Your fever should be gone for 24 hours without taking any fever-reducing meds. Staying at home means avoiding other activities including eating in dining halls, restaurants, food areas, coffee shops, grocery shopping, going to the library, using computer labs and study lounges, and avoiding campus events, and other social functions.
  • Cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough. Dispose of all used tissues and wash your hands.
  • Visit YSU’s — Mercy Health Student Health Center web site and click on ‘Health Information’ and print out the Nausea, Vomiting and Diarrhea Instructions.

The CDC’s list of EMERGENCY warning signs for adults that need URGENT MEDICAL attention includes:

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
  • Sudden dizziness
  • Confusion
  • Severe or persistent vomiting
  • Flu-like symptoms improve, but then return again with fever and a worse cough.
