Bio

Dr. Smith received a BA from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA in 1989, and an MA and PhD (2000) from Rutgers University. She has been a member of the YSU Department of Art faculty since 1998.

Dr. Smith has received many fellowships and honors including a Fulbright fellowship (1995), a Samuel H. Kress Foundation fellowship at the Biblioteca Hertziana in Rome, Italy (1995-1998), and a Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst Research Grant from the German government (1995).

Dr. Smith’s presentations and publications deal with funerary art and ritual commemoration in the Roman world, and Roman glass.

Death and commemoration in the Late Antique/Early Christian world, Roman man-made glass, Gold-glass vessels of the ancient world, Catacombs of Rome, Values-based leadership in higher education, Curriculum efficiency, Pedagogy
