A public talk exploring the shared history of Jewish and Black Americans in the fight for civil rights will take place at noon Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane.
Titled “From Exodus to Freedom Rides: Jewish and Black Americans Marching Together for Civil Rights,” the program will be presented by Youngstown State University faculty members Adam Fuller, associate professor of Politics, International Relations and the Rigelhaupt Pre-Law Center, and Cryshanna Jackson Leftwich, professor of Politics, International Relations and the Rigelhaupt Pre-Law Center.
The program will examine moments of solidarity, activism and partnership between Jewish and Black communities during the civil rights movement and their continued relevance today.
The program is hosted by the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation. A light lunch will be served.
