YSU, Alzheimer’s Association to host community town hall on early detection and screening

Youngstown State University’s Wellness for Life Speaker Series will host a community town hall on early detection and screening for Alzheimer’s disease from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Canfield United Methodist Church.

Guest speakers include Mary Eartl, education specialist with the Alzheimer’s Association Greater East Ohio Chapter, and Daniel Van Dussen, program director of YSU’s Master of Health and Human Services program.

The event will cover:

  • A newly FDA-approved early detection tool
  • Current pharmaceutical options for early-stage Alzheimer’s
  • The latest research and challenges in today’s funding landscape
  • The pros and cons of early diagnosis
  • How screenings work and whether they’re right for you
  • Costs, insurance and financial resources
  • What higher risk means and what steps to take

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage with experts about the journey from screening to care. Lunch will be provided.
