Monday, Sept.14, 4 p.m. The YSU College of Liberal Art and Social Sciences kicks off its Faculty Scholars Forum in the CLASS Dean’s Conference Room in DeBartolo Hall. This week’s forum features Tomi Ovaska (Economics), A Stifled Economy: A Quasi-Experimental Study on Socialism's Socio-Economic Effects on Estonia. Monday, Sept. 14, 7:30 p.m. The Dana Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Joseph Kromholz, performs at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave. The concert is free and open to the public. Wednesday, Sept. 16, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Youngstown Academic Advising Association presents the annual Majors Exploration Fair in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center. Students can meet with students and faculty from more than 30 departments. The event is helpful for undecided, unsure or exploring students. Wednesday, Sept. 16, 12:15 p.m. The YSU Dana School of Music’s Flute Studio presents a free Music at Noon concert in the Butler Institute of American Art. Wednesday, Sept. 16, 7 p.m. “An overview of microseismic activity associated with high volume hydraulic fracturing” is the topic of a presentation by Terry Engelder, Department of Geosciences, Pennsylvania State University, in Cushwa Hall Room B100 on the YSU campus. The lecture is part of the YSU Speaker Series on Energy and the Environment.

Thursday, Sept. 17, 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Opening Ceremony of Hispanic Heritage Month at the Mahoning County Courthouse, Rotunda, downtown Youngstown. Friday, Sept. 18, 1 p.m. "Jobs in Foreign Languages," a forum at which professionals in Engineering, Education, Health Care and Business will talk about how they use foreign languages in their jobs, will be held in the Presidential Suites of Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18 and 19, 8 p.m. The YSU Ward Beecher Planetarium kicks off its fall program with “Exploring New Horizons.” The planetarium also presents “Secret of the Cardboard Rocket” at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19. Free and open to the public. Saturday, Sept. 19, 4 p.m. The Penguins football team takes on St. Francis (Pa.) at Stambaugh Stadium. Sunday, Sept. 20, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Student Jazz Groups from the YSU Jazz Program perform a Jazz & Brunch concert at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown.
