Wednesday, March 1, 12:15 p.m. The Dana School of Music March Percussion Ensemble performs a free Music at Noon concert in the Butler Institute of American Art.
Wednesday, March 1, 5:10 p.m. Free public lecture by artist Kjellgren Alkire in the McDonough Museum of Art.
Wednesday, March 1, 7 p.m. Matt Kelso of the Fractracker Alliance presents “Updated Pipeline Incident Analysis Report” as part of the YSU Lecture Series on Energy and the Environment. The lectures, sponsored in part by the James Dale Ethics Center, are in Room B112 of Cushwa Hall on campus. The talks are free and open to the public.
Thursday, March 2, 7:30 p.m. Two winners of the Dana School of Music Young Artists Concerto Competition perform solos at a concert in Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown. YSU students Michael Nichols, Piano, and Francesca Molinaro, Soprano, will perform with the Dana Symphony Orchestra. The concert also features the "Windy Five," a student woodwind quintet.
Friday, March 3. YSU Penguins play in the first round of the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament in Detroit. Time and opponent to be announced. Second round games are Saturday and Sunday, March 4 and 5, with the semifinals on Monday, March 6 and the finals on Tuesday, March 7.
Friday, March 3, 3 p.m. A panel discussion about gender diversity in the technology and computing fields will be in Room 103 of Meshel Hall. The event, hosted by Jumpstart Inc. with support from the YSU Association for Computing Machinery-Women, is titled “Decoding the Glass Ceiling: Female Entrepreneurs in Tech”.
Friday, March 3, 4 p.m. Minerva Cordero, an award-winning mathematics teacher and scholar, gives the keynote address at the 20th annual Edward W. Powers Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Career Workshop and Lecture Series in the Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center on campus. It is free and open to the public. The lecture is titled “The Power of Mathematics and Mathematical Thinking.”
Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 3, 4 and 5. University Theater’s production of “No More Peace!” in Bliss Hall’s Spotlight Theater on campus. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. while the Sunday matinee performances are at 2 p.m.
Friday and Saturday, March 3 and 4, 8 p.m. YSU Ward Beecher Planetarium presents “Firefall.” The planetarium also shows “This Is Our Sky” at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 4.
Saturday, March 4, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Edward W. Powers Women in STEM Career Day is in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center. The event, which features panel discussions and hands-on activities, is designed to expose young women in grades 6 through 12 to career opportunities in STEM.
Saturday, March 4, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. YSU’s Lariccia School of Accounting and Finance is providing trained business students and professional volunteers to offer the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. VITA offers income tax preparation and e-filing at no charge to local residents and hands-on experience to skilled business students. The program is offered in computer labs on the first floor of Williamson Hall at YSU through April 8. Williamson Hall is located on 221 North Hazel Street between Rayen Avenue and Wood Street.
