Tartuffe, the classic 17
th-century comedic satire by Molière, will be presented by Youngstown State University Theater over the next two weekends.
The show’s run is scheduled for Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays Feb. 26, 27 and 28, and March 4, 5 and 6 in Bliss Hall’s Spotlight Theater on the YSU campus. The Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. while the Sunday matinee performances are at 2 p.m.
Adult tickets are $16 (includes $2 convenience fee). Special rate tickets are: $8 (includes $2 convenience fee) for non-YSU students, YSU faculty and staff with valid ID, senior citizens, Penguin Club members and groups of eight (8) or more. YSU student tickets are free with valid ID.

www.ysu.tix.com. Seats in Spotlight Theater are general admission; patrons are advised to arrive early as once the show begins, there will be no admittance.

Of particular interest in the production is the costume design, which represents the period in which Tartuffe is set. “This show was definitely a challenge since the Restoration time period is one of the most elaborate periods in fashion, with extravagant make up, giant wigs and high heels for both men and women,” said Katherine Garlick, assistant professor of Costume Design and Costume Designer for this show.
She said that a show in this time period is seldom staged, so the pieces are hard to find and must either be built from scratch or significantly retooled. This is Garlick’s fourth Restoration period show, so she was familiar with the requirements. The YSU Costume Shop staff built some of the costumes and refurbished some existing pieces beginning last December; however, the research began several months prior to that with both she and Costume Shop Supervisor Rebel Mickelson determining what was available in-house and what would need to be created.
