Top YSU business students earn elite honor society induction

Beta Gamma Sigma members

The Youngstown State University chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma in the Williamson College of Business Administration celebrated academic excellence and leadership during its 27th annual Beta Gamma Sigma induction ceremony held Feb. 22 on campus.

Beta Gamma Sigma is the world’s premier business honor society, reserved exclusively for schools accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International. Membership represents the highest recognition a business student can receive at an AACSB-accredited institution. Students must rank in the top 10% of undergraduate classes or top 20% of graduate programs to be eligible.

A total of 63 new members were inducted, including 16 sophomores, 6 juniors, 10 seniors, 26 MBA students and 4 MBA second recognition students. In addition, John Rossi, senior lecturer of marketing and adviser to the YSU American Marketing Association chapter, was inducted as a faculty member. President Bill Johnson served as this year’s keynote speaker and was inducted as the chapter honoree.

During the ceremony, chapter adviser Jeong Hoon Choi, associate professor of management and marketing, emphasized that Beta Gamma Sigma represents more than academic distinction. The society’s principles — honor, wisdom and earnestness — call members to lead with integrity, pursue lifelong learning and apply their talents in service to others.

The event also highlighted the global reach of both the university and the organization. Among the inductees was sophomore Fazliddin Tashev, whose grandparents traveled from Kyrgyzstan to attend the ceremony, underscoring the pride and international connections reflected within the WCBA community.

The YSU chapter continues to earn national distinction. The chapter has received Highest Honors recognition multiple times in recent years, reflecting its strong programming, leadership development and community engagement efforts. Student leaders regularly participate in global leadership events and volunteer initiatives that extend the impact of Beta Gamma Sigma beyond the classroom.

Founded in 1913, Beta Gamma Sigma has established more than 630 collegiate chapters in over 30 countries and has welcomed more than 980,000 members worldwide. While nearly 350,000 students receive business degrees annually, only about 25,000 are inducted each year.

The newly inducted students represent the best in business at Youngstown State University and join a global network of leaders committed to academic excellence, professional integrity and meaningful service.
