"Creating Opportunity" poverty awareness event this week on campus

Poverty Awareness in Youngstown presents “Creating Opportunity: Some Lessons from Haiti, Detroit and Cleveland” 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, in Room 132 of DeBartolo Hall on the campus of Youngstown State University. The event features Dionissi Aliprantis, a research economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. He also is associate director of The Math Corps. Cleveland, a combined academic enrichment and mentoring program that brings middle and high school students from the greater Cleveland area together with college students to learn mathematics from each other, as well as to interact with professional mathematicians in a university setting. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Spanish and a bachelor’s in Mathematics from Indiana University, and he holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. Poverty Awareness in Youngstown is a YSU student-organized collection effort that strives to promote awareness of the effects of poverty in Youngstown.
