Bliss Hall hosts Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition through Jan. 27
Youngstown State University hosts the 2017 Northeastern Ohio Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition in Bliss Hall.
Showcasing artwork from students in Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Ashtabula counties in grades 7 to 12, the exhibition runs Jan. 9 through 27 in the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery on the second floor of Bliss Hall and in the Art Department on the fourth floor.
The Gallery is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. More than 40 schools are participating.
“The Scholastic Art Awards program is an outstanding way to showcase middle and high school artwork in our region,” said Greg Moring, chair of the Department of Art.
The Scholastic Art Awards ceremony will be Saturday, Jan. 14, in Ford Theater in Bliss Hall. The high school ceremony will be held at noon and the junior high ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 14 in Bliss Hall’s Ford Theater. At the ceremony, students will receive Gold and Silver Key awards as well as Honorable Mention awards. There are 885 regional entries. American Visions Award recipients and Gold Key finalists will be sent to New York to compete for awards and possible scholarships with other student entries from across the nation.
The Northeastern Ohio Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition program is designed to encourage student creativity, provide the opportunity for enrichment by interaction with their contemporaries, and bring student artwork into the public view.
The following schools are participating in this year’s exhibition:
Ashtabula County: Grand Valley Middle School, Grand Valley High School, Jefferson Area High School.
Columbiana County: East Palestine High School, Heartland Christian School, Leetonia High School, Salem High School, United Local High School, and Wellsville High School.
Mahoning County: Austintown Fitch High School, Boardman High School, Cardinal Mooney High School, Canfield High School, Canfield Village Middle School, Chaney High School, Holy Family School, Jackson-Milton High School, Lowellville High School, Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, Poland Seminary High School, Saint Christine School, Sebring High School, Struthers High School, Ursuline High School, and West Branch High School.
Trumbull County: Bloomfield High School, Brookfield High School, Champion Middle School, Howland High School, Hubbard High School, John F. Kennedy High School, Joseph Badger High Schools, Lakeview Local High School, Lordstown High School, Mathews High School, Mineral Ridge High School, Newton Falls High School, Niles McKinley High School, Niles Middle School, Southington Chalker High School, Trumbull Career and Technical Center, Warren G. Harding High School, Warren Lincoln Pk-8 School, and Warren McGuffey Pk-8 School..
