Remuneration: Tuition remission and a $7,500 stipend during the academic year (paid in bi-weekly increments). Graduate Assistants also receive fringe benefits including tuition for up to 18 semester hours in the fall and spring semesters.
Position Start/End Dates: At least one week prior to the term beginning for both fall and spring semesters preferable starting summer 2026. This position is currently one academic year with the opportunity for renewal.
Hour requirements: Qualified applicants must be able to work 20 hours, primarily during the hours of 8am-5pm, and be available on occasional evenings and/or weekends related to scheduled events.
Position Summary
The Graduate Assistant Intern for Student-Athlete Wellbeing supports the Dean of Students Office by assisting with outreach, programming, and case management related to student-athlete wellbeing. This role focuses on providing support to student-athletes navigating challenges such as injuries, surgeries, roster status changes and other personal or academic concerns. The Graduate Assistant Intern will also assist with campus programming, marketing initiatives, and administrative support to promote student wellbeing and engagement.
Primary Responsibilities
Student-Athlete Support & Case Management
- Assist with case management efforts related to student-athletes experiencing injuries, medical procedures, roster status changes or other well-being concerns.
- Conduct outreach to student-athletes who are undergoing surgery or recovering from injuries to provide support and connect them with campus resources.
- Meet student athletes to assess needs and provide referrals to campus services (Penguin Service Center, Student Counseling, Athletic Training, Financial aid, Bursar’s etc).
- Facilitate mental health and wellbeing programming for student athletes.
Campus Programming & Engagement
- Assist in the planning and implementation of programming throughout the academic year for the Dean of Students Office related to student wellbeing and support services.
- Participate in outreach initiatives designed to increase awareness of student support resources.
Marketing & Communications
- Develop marketing materials including flyers, digital signage slides, and other promotional content focused on student-athlete wellbeing and Dean of Students programming.
- Support communication efforts that promote available services and wellbeing initiatives.
- Prepare weekly/bi-weekly slides for campus TVs and oversee bulletin boards with campus resources in athletic facilities for student athletes.
Collaboration & Meetings
- Attend bi-weekly Student-Athlete of Concern meetings to collaborate with campus partners and discuss student support strategies.
- Attend and schedule pre/post-surgery meetings with student-athletes working with athletic training and athletic doctor as requested
- Work closely with campus departments such as Athletics, Counseling Services, and Student Affairs to coordinate support for student-athletes.
Outreach & Events
- Represent the Dean of Students Office/Athletics at campus outreach events including Penguin Preview Day and orientation programs as needed or requested.
- Assist with informational outreach to prospective and incoming students regarding support services.
Administrative Support
- Provide front desk coverage for the Dean of Students Office as needed, including greeting students and visitors.
- Answer phone calls and assist with general office inquiries.
- Support additional administrative and programmatic needs within the office.
Qualifications
- Enrollment in a graduate program at the institution (athletics, higher education, social work, counseling, business etc.) Other programs will be accepted based on student interest in the position.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in supporting students.
- Interest in student affairs, student wellbeing, athletics support services, or case management.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with sensitive student concerns.
- Experience with event planning, marketing materials, or student engagement preferred.
