Remuneration: Tuition remission and a $7,500 stipend during the academic year (paid in bi-weekly increments). Graduate Assistants also receive fringe benefits including tuition for up to 18 semester hours in the fall and spring semesters. 

Position Start/End Dates: At least one week prior to the term beginning for both fall and spring semesters preferable starting summer 2026. This position is currently one academic year with the opportunity for renewal.  

Hour's requirements: Qualified applicants must be able to work 20 hours, primarily during the hours of 8am-5pm, and be available on occasional evenings and/or weekends related to scheduled events. 

Position Summary

The Dean of Students – Graduate Assistant Intern for Wellbeing supports student wellbeing initiatives through the coordination and management of essential student support resources, including the Penguin Pantry and Career Closet. This position plays a key role in addressing student basic needs, particularly food insecurity and access to professional attire, while developing programs and partnerships that promote student success. The Graduate Assistant will collaborate with campus and community partners to increase awareness, engagement, and access to resources that support holistic student wellbeing.

Primary Responsibilities

Resource Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day/weekly operations of the Penguin Pantry and Career Closet.
  • Manage inventory, organize, and sort incoming donations of food, clothing, and related items.
  • Coordinate donation intake processes to ensure resources remain accessible and well-stocked.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory, usage, and donation tracking.
  • Maintain accurate and update pantry and career closet manual and any records as requested. 

Volunteer Coordination

  • Recruit and supervise student volunteers supporting the Penguin Pantry and Career Closet.
  • Schedule volunteer shifts and ensure appropriate coverage during operating hours.
  • Develop opportunities for student organizations and campus groups to participate in volunteer efforts.
  • Manage volunteer hours on Penguin Pulse and create reports/assessments as requested. 

Programming and Campus Engagement

  • Develop and implement programming related to food insecurity, student basic needs, and wellbeing to campus.
  • Create and coordinate campus-wide drives to collect food, clothing, and other needed items for the pantry and career closet.
  • Partner with student organizations, departments, and campus groups to host events and service opportunities supporting student basic needs.

Student Support

  • Assist students who utilize the Penguin Pantry/closet by providing information about available resources and support services on/off campus.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for students to access basic needs resources.
  • Meet with students who are facing food insecurity to come up with a plan regarding on/off campus resources utilization.

Collaboration and Outreach

  • Collaborate with the Dean of Students Office on additional projects, programs, and initiatives throughout the year related to student wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with Dean of Students Case managers who may refer students to pantry/career closet for needs
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners and organizations for donation sourcing and distribution and incoming opportunities.
  • Support outreach efforts to increase awareness of campus resources addressing food insecurity and professional development needs.
  • Represent the Dean of Students Office at campus outreach events including Penguin Preview Day and orientation programs as needed or requested

Administrative support

  • Provide front desk coverage for the Dean of Students Office as needed, including greeting students and visitors.

  • Answer phone calls and assist with general office inquiries.

  • Support additional administrative and programmatic needs within the office.

  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a graduate program at the institution (Social work, Student affairs/higher education/counseling, business etc.) Other programs considered as well based upon student’s interest.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student wellbeing, basic needs, support, or community service.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate with diverse campus and community stakeholders.
  • Experience with volunteer management, program planning, or resource coordination preferred.

Work Schedule

  • Approximately 20 hours per week during the academic year.
  • Some evening or occasional weekend hours may be required for events or programming.

Compensation

  • Graduate assistant stipend and/or tuition remission as determined by university graduate assistantship guidelines.
