Post-Admission Process

I-20/DS 2019 Paperwork Process

 

Upon acceptance to Youngstown State University, students will receive an email with guidance regarding the steps to obtain their YSU acceptance package. Generally, students need to prepare the following documents for I-20 or DS 2019 processing. 

 

For International Freshman Students

 

1. Evidence of Sufficient Financial Resources

International students (F-1 or J-1 visa holders) are required to provide evidence of sufficient financial resources to support their first year of study.  For detailed information, please see the Financial Requirement webpage. 

  • Download the YSU Affidavit Support Form for Undergraduate Study. Applicants and their financial sponsors (e.g. parent, or applicant self) must completely fill out, sign, scan, and upload this form to the application portal
  • Upload supporting financial documents (such as bank statement or a letter from the sponsor’s bank) showing sufficient funds are available to support the applicant’s first year of study to the application portal.  Bank statements must be in English, clearly state the account holder’s name and currency and must be no more than 6 months old.

If an applicant is sponsored by a government or an organization, the applicant must submit an official award letter addressed to Youngstown State University in lieu of YSU Affidavit Support Form for Undergraduate Study Form and bank statement. The letter must state in U.S. dollars the amount awarded annually and provide complete billing instructions.

2. Follow the emailed instructions to either: 

 

For International transfer Students

 

1. Submit all official college transcripts that your admission offer is based on. Please check Official Transcripts and Degree Certificates and How to Submit page for detailed information.

If you are transferring from a foreign university, you should prepare course descriptions for each course you have taken in Word Format. An IPO staff member will email you to request course descriptions once your credit transfer process starts. For more details, please check Credit Transfer Process page.

For International Visiting /Exchange Students

 

1.    Download YSU Affidavit Support Form for Visiting/Exchange Students from the Financial Requirements webpage. Applicants and their financial sponsors (e.g. parent, or applicant self) must completely fill out, sign, scan, and upload this form to the application portal. 
 
2.    Upload supporting financial documents (such as bank statement or a letter from the sponsor’s bank) showing sufficient funds are available to support the applicant’s time of study in the U.S. (either one semester or one academic year) to the application portal.  Bank statements must be in English, clearly state the account holder’s name and currency and must be no more than 6 months old.
 
3.    Create a shipping label for your acceptance package. Detailed instructions are included in the admission decision E-mail. 

4.    Download Transient Tentative Course Approval Form and plan your courses at YSU. It is your responsibility to obtain the permission and signature from your academic advisor at your home institution to ensure that courses taken at YSU will count towards your degree program at your home institution. You can click and review YSU Scheduled Classes. Upload this completed form to the application portal.
