COVID 19 Information

While YSU no longer requires that COVID cases be reported, individuals who test positive, are experiencing symptoms or are a close contact are encouraged to follow proper protocols for isolation, quarantine and mask wearing. For more information on these protocols see the flow charts below.

Current COVID-19 guidance and information, including steps for individuals experiencing symptoms of, testing positive for, or having close contact to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, is available on the YSU Coronavirus Information Webpage.

Frequently Asked Questions

COVID-19/Leave and Remote Work

1. Can I work remotely if I have tested positive for COVID?

a. If you have symptoms, the YSU COVID webpage requires that an employee who has a positive COVID test and symptoms isolate for 5 days from the onset of symptoms and to wear a mask around others for the following 5 days

b. If you do not have symptoms, the YSU COVID webpage requires that an employee who has a positive COVID test and no symptoms isolate for 5 days from the test date and to wear a mask around others for the following 5 days.

c. In either case, if the employee can fully perform their job duties and with the approval of their Manager, the employee can work remotely for those workdays that fall within the 5 day isolation period.

2. What if I tested positive, had no initial symptoms but then developed symptoms after testing positive?

In this case, the 5-day isolation period will begin over again from the onset of symptoms. Please refer to 1a. and 1c. above.

3. Do I have to present my test results to my manager or anyone at the University to request COVID-related remote work?

No. You only need to inform your manager of the positive test results. Please be aware that an employee who falsely or misleadingly reports a positive COVID test, can be subject to corrective action/discipline up to and including termination. In this situation, an employee may be required to provide evidence of a positive COVID test.

4. What if I am unable to fully perform my job functions remotely, my symptoms don’t improve, or I am too ill to fully perform my job functions during the 5-day isolation period?

An employee who is ill and cannot fully perform their job duties whether remotely or on-site is required to use sick leave during their isolation period.

5. What if my symptoms do not improve after my isolation period?

If you have completed the isolation period and you are ill, you should not be working either on campus or remotely and will need to utilize sick leave.

6. After a positive COVID test, do I have to re-test in order to return to work?

No. There is currently no re-testing requirement.
