Strength and Conditioning Area – 12,000 sq. ft.
More than 70 pieces of cardio equipment including treadmills, ellipticals, various types of cycles, steppers, and rowers.  24 selections of weight-training machines.  Combination of 40 plate-loaded and free-weight stations

Climbing Wall
One of the tallest in the state of Ohio at 53 feet Program mix will include eight climbing routes and a 46 feet rappelling platform. One-third of the lower wall is designed for bouldering opportunities

Wellness Resource Center
Designed to promote healthy lifestyle choices through comprehensive programming in areas of fitness, mental, and spiritual health.  Programming and services will include workshops, classes, clinics, testing, and assessments, designed for individual and group participation.

Meditation Center
A quiet space designed specifically to provide an area for students, faculty, and staff to take time out of their hectic schedules to relax in a stress-free environment.

Aerobics Studio – 3,200 sq. ft.
Designed as a group fitness instructional area that accommodates classes taught by certified instructors  Capability to be divided in half to hold two different classes simultaneously

Sports Forum – 18,500 sq. ft.
Four multi-purpose courts, with the option of isolating each court.  Ability to play basketball, volleyball, badminton, and a host of other activities.

General Policies
  • Athletic footwear with a completely enclosed toe and heel is required when participating in physical activity within the facility. (“Enclosed” is defined as lacking any holes or exposed areas besides the collar of the shoe.)  
  • Shirts must be worn at all times and must cover the pectoral region from both the front and the sides.  
  • Shorts must be of an appropriate length to ensure full coverage of the gluteal region at all times.  
  • All personal belongings must be placed in available lockers or cubbies to prevent tripping hazards and avoid clutter in walkways. The Department of Campus Recreation is NOT responsible for lost or stolen items.  
  • Patrons are required to wipe down equipment using the spray bottles and red equipment towels provided.  
  • All equipment must be used in accordance with the manufacturer's standards.  Patrons may be held responsible for equipment damage caused by misuse set by manufacturer.  
  • Campus Recreation staff reserves the right to stop behaviors deemed unsafe or inappropriate.  
  • Speakers and other sound systems are not permitted except when used with headphones or approved by staff.  
  • In the case of injury, please notify a staff member to complete the required paperwork.  
  • The aggressive use of profanity and vulgar language is prohibited.  
  • Harassment of other patrons and/or Campus Recreation staff is prohibited. Harassment of any sort is taken very seriously, and disciplinary action will be taken.  
  • Alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, tobacco/caffeine pouches, electronic cigarettes, vapes, non-medical inhalers, and any form of recreational drugs are not permitted in the Andrews Student Recreation Center. Food and drinks are permitted, given cleanliness is maintained within the facility.    
  • To ensure the cleanliness of the facility, please dispose of waste by placing items in the appropriate waste receptacles.  
  • Patrons are encouraged to consult with a physician prior to beginning a new fitness program.  
  • It is in the best interest of all patrons and staff that patrons adhere to Campus Recreation policies to ensure safety and inclusion for all.  
  • Failure to comply with the policies listed above may result in temporary or permanent suspension from the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center.
Indoor Track
  • The track is 1/8 of a mile in length  
  • The direction of the track changes daily. Please refer to posted signs to see updated track direction.  
  • Athletic footwear with a completely enclosed toe and heel is required when participating in physical activity within the facility. (“Enclosed” is defined as lacking any holes or exposed areas besides the collar of the shoe.)  
  • Shirts must be worn at all times and must cover the pectoral region from both the front and the sides.  
  • Shorts must be of an appropriate length to ensure full coverage of the gluteal region at all times.  
  • Patrons are required to wipe down equipment using the spray bottles and red equipment towels provided.  
  • Limit standing, loitering, and/or spectating from the track to a minimum (No more than 5 minutes)  
  • To ensure the cleanliness of the facility, please dispose of waste by placing items in the appropriate waste receptacles.  
  • Failure to comply with the policies listed above may result in temporary or permanent suspension from the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center.  
challenge course
  • There is risk associated with this activity, in order for us to do our best to keep you safe, you must abide by all rules including:  
  • Do not enter the course without being attached by an operator (Campus Rec Staff).  
  • Stand within the stanchioned area and not on the track.  
  • Anyone under 48" tall must have a chaperone.  
  • Participants must weigh under 300lbs to participate.  
  • Participants must fit safely in the harness.  
  • No running, jumping, horseplay, or swinging from leads.  
  • No flip-flops, open-toed shoes, or crocs.  
  • No items in pockets, please secure glasses.  
  • One participant per obstacle at a time.  
  • Follow all operator rules, the operator reserves the right to ask you to leave the course.
  • The sling line should stay in front of you at all times.  
  • Do not touch the overhead track or tamper with your or other harnesses or sling lines.  
  • Participants should be in good health and if you suspect your health to be an issue or exacerbate a preexisting condition, please do not participate.  
  • People who are experiencing the following, should not enter the challenge course: pregnancy, back problems, neck problems, heart conditions, recent surgery/injury, or fresh stitches.  
  • Failure to comply with the above policies may result in temporary or permanent suspension from the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center.  
Racquetball Courts
  • Court is available on a first-come, first-served basis unless otherwise reserved Court is for racquet ball purposes only.  
  • The use of protective eyewear is recommended and available for rental at Equipment Issue.  
  • To ensure the cleanliness of the facility, please dispose of waste by placing items in the appropriate waste receptacles.  
  • Campus Recreation staff reserves the right to stop behaviors deemed unsafe or inappropriate.  
  • Failure to comply with the above policies may result in temporary or permanent suspension from the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center.  
Equipment Issue Policies
  • Equipment is available for rental with valid photo ID (YSU ID or government-issued).  
  • All equipment must be kept inside Andrews Student Recreation & Wellness Center and returned before the building closes each day (Unless otherwise specified).
  • All equipment must be returned by the original user that checked out the equipment.
  • Failure to follow the equipment issue procedures or equipment abuse will result in a suspension from checking out equipment or replacement fee  
  • Campus Recreation staff reserves the right to stop behaviors deemed unsafe or inappropriate.  
  • Failure to comply with the above policies may result in temporary or permanent suspension from the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center.  
Multi-Purpose Courts Policies

Locker room policies
  • Lockers are available for daily use unless otherwise purchasing a semesterly or annually locker rental agreement through the Administrative Office (must use assigned locker and lock)  
  • Daily locks can be checked out at Equipment Issue using a photo ID.    
  • It is highly recommended that patrons use a lock when storing personal belongings.
  • The Department of Campus Recreation is NOT responsible for lost or stolen items.  
  • Locks not purchased from Campus Rec and left on at the end of daily operations will be removed.  
  • Items of value (wallets, phones, etc.) found unattended will be turned over to YSU Police. Any other items will be placed in the lost and found  
  • Video or photography is not allowed in the locker rooms, including video chat.    
  • Items should not be left unattended in the shower area. Items found in the shower area will be disposed of.    
  • Campus Recreation staff reserves the right to stop behaviors deemed unsafe or inappropriate.    
  • Failure to comply with the above policies may result in temporary or permanent suspension from the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center.   
Strength & cardio Area ("S & C") policies
  • Athletic footwear with a completely enclosed toe and heel is required when participating in physical activity within the facility. (“Enclosed” is defined as lacking any holes or exposed areas besides the collar of the shoe.)  
  • Shirts must be worn at all times and must cover the pectoral region from both the front and the sides.  
  • Shorts must be of an appropriate length to ensure full coverage of the gluteal region at all times.  
  • All personal belongings must be placed in available lockers or cubbies to prevent tripping hazards and avoid clutter in walkways.  
  • The Department of Campus Recreation is NOT responsible for lost or stolen items.  
  • The use of chalk is prohibited in all areas besides the indoor Rock Wall  
  • The use of smelling salts/ammonia caps is prohibited in all areas of the facility.  
  • To ensure safety and prevent damage, weights must be controlled to avoid excessive slamming. Olympic lifts are permitted only in dedicated areas.  
  • All equipment must be used in accordance with the manufacturer's standards.  Patrons may be held responsible for equipment damage caused by misuse set by manufacturer.  
  • For your safety, the use of a spotter and equipment safety catches are necessary Campus Recreation staff may assist you if needed.  
  • Strength equipment should only be utilized by one patron at a time  
  • Patrons are required to wipe down equipment using the spray bottles and red equipment towels provided.  
  • Return all equipment and weights to their proper place after use.    
  • Olympic weightlifting plates and equipment must remain in the designated Olympic lifting area.  
  • Outside personal training and/or instruction is not allowed (only personal training and instruction provided by the Campus Recreation staff & the Kinesiology Sports Science training program is permitted).    
  • Body contact sparring of any sort is not allowed in the facility.    
  • Campus Recreation staff reserves the right to stop behaviors deemed unsafe or inappropriate  
  • Failure to comply with the policies listed above may result in temporary or permanent suspension from the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center.  
climbing wall
  • Climbing is inherently risky; climb at your own risk. Helmets are available upon request.  
  • No food or drink besides water is allowed in the climbing area.  
  • Topping out while bouldering is not allowed.  
  • Climbing above the cave while bouldering is not allowed  
  • Patrons can connect themselves to the Auto-belay so long as they show a staff member they are correctly attached before climbing  
  • Bouldering is prohibited while wearing a harnesses  
  • Do not place hands, fingers, or feet on lead climbing bolts  
  • Do not climb or stand under other climbers  
  • No climber who is bleeding is allowed to climb until blood is cleaned and wound is covered  
  • Climbers are not permitted to wear jewelry or have items in their pockets while climbing  
  • Cubbies are available for storage of personal items at patron’s own rick. Locks and lockers are available for rent at the equipment issue desk.  
  • Accidents and broken or spinning holds must be reported to staff immediately  
  • When wall is at capacity, there is a 15-minute time limit per climber  
  • Patrons can only belay if they have completed the appropriate belay clinic and final test. Belay clinics are available upon request. Climbers who have completed belay tests at other gyms can opt to test out at their own discretion  
  • All patrons must renew their belay cards at the start of every academic year  
  • Headphones are not permitted while top rope climbing; wireless headphones are permitted while bouldering only  
  • No swinging from ropes or horseplay on the mats  
  • Patrons are not allowed behind the desk or in the office unless they are using the hang board  
  • Patrons are not allowed to set top-rope routes but can co-set boulder routes with a staff member  
  • Patrons using their own equipment must have it inspected and approved by staff.  
  • All staff members have the right to ask patrons to stop any action they deem unsafe or inappropriate.  
  • Failure to comply with the above policies may result in temporary or permanent suspension from the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center
Aerobic Studio Open Hours Policies
  • During designated open studio hours, Campus Recreation patrons may use the Aerobics studio, functional training area, and equipment for individual workouts.  
  • All rules and policies listed for Andrews Student Recreation & Wellness Center, fitness studio, and functional training area will apply to open studio hours. Patrons may utilize the studio and equipment at their own risk.  
  • Athletic footwear with a completely enclosed toe and heel is required when participating in physical activity within the facility.  
  • Shirts must be worn at all times and must cover the pectoral region from both the front and the sides. Exceptions for religious reasons can be made.  
  • Patrons are required to wipe down equipment using the spray bottles and blue towels provided.  
  • Equipment (body bars, dumbbells, resistance bands, etc.) may not be taken out of the aerobics studio.    
  • All equipment must be used for its intended purpose. Patrons may be held responsible for equipment damage caused by misuse.  
  • Chalk products are not permitted.  
  • Patrons are asked to return all equipment to its proper location after use.  
  • All structured activities and training programs must be approved and offered through the Department of Campus Recreation.  
  • Registered YSU student organizations may reserve one Basketball Court and/or the Aerobic Studio at no cost. Please visit ysu.edu/campus-recreation to make a reservation.  
  • Speakers and other sound systems are not permitted except when used with headphones or approved by staff.  
  • Do not throw balls against metal framing or mirrors.  
  • Handstand push-ups/holds on mirrors are not permitted.  
  • Failure to comply with the policies listed above may result in temporary or permanent suspension from the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center.
Aerobic Studio
  • The Department of Campus Recreation reserves the right to adjust the schedule, class formats, and instructors when necessary. All patrons must sign in before or after each class at the designated area with the instructor.  
  • Please refer to the website, social media, or bulletin boards near the studios for class cancelations, schedule changes, and special events.  
  • Entrance to classes will start 10 minutes prior to the scheduled class time and will close 10 minutes after class starts. Entry is on a first-come, first-served basis.  
  • Patrons should remain outside the studio doors until everyone from the previous class has exited.  
  • Maximum enrollment for group fitness and instructional classes is up to the instructor. Once the maximum number of patrons has been reached, the class will be closed.  
  • For your safety and the safety of other members, please follow the instructor’s routine and keep the conversation to a minimum.  
  • For patrons’ safety, leaving group fitness classes and clinics before the cool-down period is strongly discouraged.  
  • Athletic footwear with a completely enclosed toe and heel is required when participating in physical activity within the facility.    
  • Shirts must be worn at all times and must cover the pectoral region from both the front and the sides. Exceptions for religious reasons can be made.  
  • Patrons of all classes are strongly encouraged to bring a towel and water bottle to class.  
  • Equipment provided in a class (body bars, dumbbells, resistance bands, etc.) may not be taken out of the aerobics studio. Patrons are asked to return all equipment to its proper location at the end of each class.  
  • Only Campus Recreation staff members are permitted to use the stereos in the studios.  
  • Patrons must be 16 years or older to participate in any class.  
  • The training arm must remain on black mats at all times. No more than two people are to be using the training arm at one time.  
  • Patrons are required to wipe down equipment using the spray bottles and blue towels provided.  
  • Failure to comply with the policies listed above may result in temporary or permanent suspension from the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center.   
Spinning Studio
  • The Department of Campus Recreation reserves the right to adjust the schedule, class formats, and instructors when necessary. All patrons must sign in before or after each class at the designated area with the instructor.  
  • Please refer to the website, social media, or bulletin boards near the studios for class cancellations, schedule changes, and special events.  
  • Entrance to classes will start 10 minutes prior to the scheduled class time and will close 10 minutes after class starts. Entry is on a first-come, first-served basis. Saving bikes or spots for others is prohibited. New class patrons are encouraged to show up 10 minutes early for proper bike setup.  
  • Patrons should remain outside the studio doors until everyone from the previous class has exited.  
  • Maximum enrollment for cycling is dictated by the number of bikes. Once the maximum number of patrons has been reached, the class will be closed.    
  • The instructor has the authority to cancel class if there are no patrons in attendance.
  • For your safety and the safety of other members, please follow the instructor’s routine and keep the conversation to a minimum.  
  • For patrons' safety, leaving cycling classes before the cool-down period is strongly discouraged.  
  • Appropriate athletic attire must be worn in all cycling classes. Shoes must be worn during classes; shoes specific to cycling are acceptable. Excessively baggy pants and long skirts are not permitted in cycling classes.  
  • Shirts must be worn at all times and must cover the pectoral region from both the front and the sides. Exceptions for religious reasons can be made.  
  • Patrons of all classes are strongly encouraged to bring a towel and water bottle to class.  
  • Equipment provided in a class (body bars, dumbbells, resistance bands, etc.) may not be taken out of the aerobics studio. Patrons are asked to return all equipment to its proper location at the end of each class.  
  • Only Campus Recreation staff members are permitted to use the stereos in the studios.  
  • Patrons must be 16 years or older to participate in any class.  
  • Patrons are required to wipe down equipment using the spray bottles and blue towels provided.  
  • Failure to comply with the policies listed above may result in temporary or permanent suspension from the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center.   
Guest Passes
  • All guests must provide a valid state ID (Driver’s License, Military ID, etc.).
  • All guests must be at least 18 years old.  
  • All guest passes are $15 and are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Passes are valid for one (1) day and guests are not permitted to leave and re-enter with their pass.
  • All guests must adhere to all Campus Recreation policies and procedures.  
  • The Department of Campus Recreation reserves the right to suspend guest and member privileges and deny building access if department policies are not followed. Failure to comply with the above policies may result in temporary or permanent suspension from the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center. Violators may also be referred to YSU Police and/or YSU Student Conduct for further disciplinary action. 
Other Department Policies
  • Contact Youngstown State University Parking Services at 330-941-3546 for information about parking access options and to obtain designated student, faculty, and staff space areas.
  • Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center staff-escorted tours are available upon request or may be scheduled in advance. Please contact the administrative office (330-941-2240) to schedule a tour for five or more people.
  • Our department policy is the following: If the University is closed, we are closed. If the university is open but classes are canceled, we are open (provided that adequate staffing is possible). Please call (330) 941-3488 for the most updated information.
  • Picture taking and/or videotaping is only permissible with written authorization from the Department of Campus Recreation administrative staff. Photographs may be taken of informal recreation and programs by the Department of Campus Recreation or YSU Marketing. These photographs are used for promotional purposes. If you prefer not to be photographed, please notify the photographer.
  • Excessive public displays of affection are prohibited. 
Refund Policy
  • If you are unsatisfied or would like to cancel your membership, refunds on half-semester, full semester, and annual memberships can be processed within 2 weeks of purchase. After 2 weeks, you will not be refunded your membership fee. A 10% convenience fee will be incurred on all refunds. Refunds will be issued in the form of a check.

Theresa is a proud YSU alumni having earned her Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science in 2022. She is currently pursuing her doctorate's degree in Physical Therapy as she performed her duties as the Facility Operations GA. 

Her favorite part of working in Campus Recreation is being able to work with all the professional staff and student staff to create a welcoming environment for all YSU penguins to improve all aspects of their health and well-being.
