Past Phases

During the Organization & Conversation Phase, the Strategic Planning Organization Team, composed of representatives of faculty, administration, staff, students and the Board of Trustees was charged with:

  • Designing the planning process
  • Facilitating the stakeholder-based and constituency-oriented planning process
  • Engaging campus and the community in meaningful conversations to facilitate positive change and position YSU to be more successful in the face of a constantly changing higher education landscape.
  • Helping to gather and synthesize information and input for a Draft Plan to be developed

The team brought to campus, experts in higher education for the Thought Leader Series, posed numerous questions to the campus community for feedback and helped to set up a town hall meeting for the entire campus community.

Meet the Team

The Strategic Planning Organization Team's responsibility is to moderate, support and challenge stakeholders to envision education of tomorrow. Meet the team and find out how to connect with them.

During the Development Phase, the Strategic Planning Organization Team transitioned to the Strategic Planning Operating Team. This group worked over the summer to compile, evaluate and analyze the academic slide decks, responses and data collected throughout Phase 1. This team continued to work with constituencies and groups across campus such as deans, chairs and divisional directors throughout the Fall 2019 semester to develop the outline for the Strategic Action Plan.

During the Review & Feedback Phase, the Strategic Planning Organization Team has developed a DRAFT Plan of Strategic Academic Actions for review and feedback by the campus community.

Phase 3 Goals

During the Preparation & Publication Phase, the Strategic Plan Organizing Team (SPOT) has developed a PENULTIMATE Plan for Strategic Actions to Take Charge of Our Future which will be used to finalize a recommended Plan for Strategic Action to Take Charge of our Future to be presented to the Board of Trustees in June 2020.

During the Implementation Phase, the campus community will implement the Plan for Strategic Actions to Take Charge of Our Future - Plan for Academic Actions and Plan for Support Area Actions.

The Board approved Plan for Strategic Actions to Take Charge of Our Future was finalized considering the collective of the feedback from the campus community.

2023 Renewal

Upon the recommendation of leadership, the Board of Trustees in Spring 2023, agreed that sufficient progress had been made implementing the Plan that it should be renewed.

Five working groups were created and convened by a member of the leadership team and a dean, each with 5-6 members, and met regularly. The conveners also met regularly to share progress and to cross-populate insights. The working groups were in the areas of sustainability (new), academic portfolio, student success, marketing, community/workforce. A draft renewed Plan was presented to the Academic Senate in Fall 2023 for input, and a Penultimate draft was presented to the Board of Trustees, which was endorsed in September, 2023.

This is the final version of the renewed Plan with one new area of focus, sustainability, seven fewer Goals (from 15 to 8), and thirty-six fewer Strategies (from 67 to 31).

The Board of Trustees have discussions and receive reports on various aspects of the Plan over time such that the Board of Trustee’s Key Performance Indicators, presented annually, and other measures are reviewed for progress.
