Apply as an International Transfer Student

For admission purposes, someone is considered an international applicant if they are NOT a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, or do not hold refugee status or political asylum status. Those who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, refugees or political asylum holders, should apply for the domestic student application. If you are Refugee pending, DACA or Political Asylum PENDING, please apply through international admissions.

An international transfer student is an international applicant who has graduated from high school and was or is currently enrolled in another college or university for at least 12 semester hours following high school graduation. This classification includes postgraduate applicants from other institutions seeking additional undergraduate course work.

For those students are affected by the recent travel bans, we are unable to accept and process your application at this time. This does not reflect on your qualifications for admission, and we hope that as soon as the travel bans are lifted you will consider Youngstown State University for your education. Thank you for your understanding.

IMPORTANT: The Credit Transfer Process will only start after official college transcripts are received and you are admitted. If you submitted an official transcript that showed pending courses or the degree was not awarded, students will not be allowed to register for classes in the following semester or request official YSU transcripts before the final transcript showing proof of degree is received. Please check Official Transcripts and Degree Certificates and How to Submit page for detailed information.

Additionally, if you are transferring from a foreign university, you should prepare course descriptions for each course you have taken in Word Format. An IPO staff member will email you to request course descriptions once your credit transfer process starts. For more details, please check Credit Transfer Process page

  • Request the test center to send the official Language Test Report directly to YSU Office of International Admissions (code: 1975) (if English Proficiency is not waived).
  • All documents should be submitted in English in a Word document.
