Apply as an International Transfer Student

Apply as an International Transfer Student

For admission purposes, someone is considered an international applicant if they are NOT a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, or do not hold refugee status or political asylum status. Those who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, refugees or political asylum holders, should apply for the domestic student application.

An international transfer student is an international applicant who has graduated from high school and was or is currently enrolled in another college or university for at least 12 semester hours following high school graduation. This classification includes postgraduate applicants from other institutions seeking additional undergraduate course work.

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 (U.S. 4.00 scale) based on your high school grades.
  • Proof of English Language Proficiency. Please browse English Proficiency Requirements webpage for details.
  • For international undergraduate admission review purposes, YSU accepts scanned copies of original credentials in PDF format (See detailed requirements for copied documents).

International Transfer students who are admitted on the basis of scanned documents must:

  • submit all official college transcripts that your admission offer is based on before a YSU I-20 will be issued. If you are currently enrolled in your college; and the status of your current enrolled courses is in progress, you must submit your final college transcripts to YSU International Admissions by the first day of international student orientation (mandatory).

IMPORTANT: The Credit Transfer Process will only start after official college transcripts are received. Students will not be allowed to register for classes in the following semester or request official YSU transcripts before the final transcript is received. Please check Official Transcripts and Degree Certificates and How to Submit page for detailed information.

If you are transferring from a foreign university, you should prepare course descriptions for each course you have taken in Word Format. An IPO staff member will email you to request course descriptions once your credit transfer process starts. For more details, please check Credit Transfer Process page.
