What is FERPA?

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974; A federal law designed to:

• protect the privacy of education records;
• establish the right of students to inspect and review their education records.

YSU recognizes the importance of protecting the confidentiality of student information while complying fully with FERPA.

WHO IS PROTECTED UNDER FERPA?

Current and former students of a post-secondary institution; at YSU this means a student who is officially registered for at least one class and that class has started. FERPA rights continue after the student leaves the institution and are only terminated upon the death of the student.

WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS OF FERPA WITH REGARD TO COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS?

CCP staff will be unable to discuss particulars about a student’s academic record or progress in the program with anyone except the student and designated high school authorities.
