History Day: An effective tool for learning

In an independent study conducted in 2011, students who participated in NHD programming were shown to outperform their peers on statewide standardized tests in multiple subjects, including reading, science, math, and social studies.

Additionally, students who participate in NHD programming excel in writing, with consistently higher scores on writing assessments than their non-NHD peers.

National History Day - Teacher Resources

Educator recognition

Each year, outstanding teachers are nominated for the NHD Teacher of the Year award. The award will recognize two outstanding National History Day (NHD) teachers at the national level, one in the junior and senior divisions.  Two winners will be selected from the pool of self-nominated teachers (one in each division). These two teachers will each receive $5,000. If a teacher team wins, they will split the award.

The nomination form will stay open through January 3, 2025.
