Ohio History Day (OHD) is an affiliate of National History Day (NHD™), an interdisciplinary project-based learning program for students in grades 6-12. Each year, the History Day competition empowers students, educators, and communities by fostering curiosity, learning, and civic engagement.
Students conduct independent research to create projects in one of five categories: documentary, website, performance, paper, or exhibit.
Educators assist students in the research process, gaining their own professional development while simultaneously supporting student success.
Communities grow stronger by engaging with the past, learning lessons from student research.

OHD is available to students in grade 6-12 in the state of Ohio. Those wanting to participate at the competition hosted at Youngstown State University must live or go to school in Region 4, which is comprised of Mahoning, Trumbull, Portage, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties. Students who participate in OHD can do so as part of a class assignment, extracurricular, home-school program, or out of individual interest in the event.
History Day is conducted at three levels of competition: Regional, State, and National. Students in grades 6-12 who receive recognition at the regional contest, held annually in March, are eligible to participate in the statewide Ohio History Day, held in April. First and second-place entries at Ohio History Day State Competition are eligible to participate in the National History Day contest held each June at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland.
