Petition for Academic Reinstatement

Academic Reinstatement Petition

Requesting reinstatement after an academic suspension is an important milestone in your educational journey. Academic suspension is designed to give you the space to reflect on your performance at YSU and address the challenges that may have affected your success. If you believe you are prepared to return and have taken meaningful steps to remove the obstacles that once hindered your progress, you may now be ready to pursue academic reinstatement.

Please note:

  • Before completing the petition, make sure you meet the eligibility requirements for academic reinstatement. Students who have been academically suspended from YSU are required to sit out for at least one semester (excluding the summer term).
  • If you meet the eligibility requirements, you may submit a petition for academic reinstatement. Please note that submitting a petition does not guarantee reinstatement to Youngstown State University or to your desired academic program.
  • All petitions are reviewed by the Academic Reassessment Committee, which is made up of student and academic success professionals from across the YSU campus. The committee meets within a few weeks after each reinstatement deadline (see below).
  • After the committee completes its review, you will receive an email notification with the Committee’s decision and any conditions attached to your reinstatement, including your Academic Recovery Plan. All decision made by the committee are final.
  • If you have not attended YSU for the past three semesters, you must also apply for readmission by the required deadline for the semester, which aligns with the reinstatement petition deadline listed below. More information and the readmission application can be found at Readmission of Former Students | YSU
  • Students seeking reinstatement after more than one academic suspension may be required to meet with an Academic Coach in the Resch Academic Success Center to assess academic readiness before the petition is forwarded to the Academic Reinstatement Committee.
