Faculty refer students to coaching when they feel a student is unorganized, struggling with time management, struggling with tests and/or assignments, etc.
Tutors teach students the material of a particular subject. Academic coaches meet with students to teach them skills and methods for taking tests, studying, and how to manage their time /prioritize classwork.
After a student is referred, the Academic Success Center decides which academic coach would be the best fit for that student. The academic coach then reaches out to the student and schedules an appointment with them.
While students can be referred to academic coaching by faculty, they are not mandated to follow through with academic coaching appointments.
With faculty referrals, there are no repercussions for a student not following up with the academic success center.
