What is Academic Coaching?

Academic coaching is a one-on-one meeting with a professional who is trained in the science of learning. We know best brain based strategies and we can also help you understand who you are as a learner. In short, an academic coach will help you to optimize your learning.

 

What Does Academic Coaching Look Like?

Academic coaching is a 1:1 meeting with you and your coach where you will discuss academic concerns. It's all about you for 30 minutes!

 

Why Do Students See an Academic Coach?

Students want to work with an academic coach for a variety of reasons (see list below). But the main reason is to support your academic success. An academic coach can provide insight into how YOU learn best and help you implement effective college learning strategies. By seeing an academic coach, a plan is created in order to keep students on track towards their grade goals. By meeting weekly, students tend to utilize their time better allowing for better quality work. Some other reasons students see an academic coach include:

  • Time management

What We Do Works!

Throughout many years at the Academic Success Center, meetings and GPAs have been documented to ensure the positive effect of academic coaching.

In the last five years alone, as the graph shows, students who have seen an academic coach eleven or more times in a semester average a 2.78 GPA. Meanwhile students who went to an academic coach one time or less in a semester average a GPA of 1.43.
