Position Description:
The Residence Hall Tour Guide is an enthusiastic undergraduate Youngstown State University Student. The Residence Hall Tour Guide is responsible for conducting informative and welcoming Residence Hall Tours to prospective Youngstown State University students and their families. The Associate Director for Residence Life supervises the Residence Tour Guide.
The Residence Hall Tour Guide is responsible for conducting Residence Hall Tours in all of the residence halls; Cafaro House, Kilcawley House, Lyden House, Weller House, and Wick House. Tours will consist of showing a student room or showroom, and the common areas of the hall. The common areas will include front desk, lobbies, lounges, recreation rooms/ basements, laundry facilities, and kitchens. Residence Hall Tour Guides will be responsible for becoming familiar with the layout of each residence hall.
The Residence Hall Tour Guide will participate in other University events days such as Crash Day, Admission Open Houses, and Orientation days. They will also participate in any tours coordinated by the Admissions Office. Tour guides may give tours during the Housing Renewal process. Residence Hall Tour Guides will need to be flexible when scheduling with tour dates.
The Residence Hall Tour Guide will be responsible for building a rapport with the prospective incoming students as well as their families. Residence Hall Tour Guides will be personable and friendly to the guests of our University.
The Residence Hall Tour Guides will be responsible for understanding and knowing the campus, and housing resources, and policies and procedures. They will answer questions and refer prospective students and families to the appropriate offices.
Residence Hall Tour Guides must be willing to show their room to prospective students. The Residence Hall Guides will keep their residence hall room organized, clean, and follow all Housing policies. The Residence Hall Tour Guide may also be responsible for touring the Show Rooms in the specific Halls.
The Residence Hall Tour Guides will meet with the Associate Director periodically with the Residence Hall Tour Guide team for Staff Meetings to discuss the position, and to schedule specific tour dates.
The Residence Hall Tour Guide performs other duties as assigned by the Associate Director(s) or the Director of Housing & Residence Life
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a student living on campus,
- Must be willing to show their room,
- Must be available and flexible for tour guide times,
- Must attend all training sessions,
- Must be in good academic, financial and judicial standing with the University,
- Must pass a Criminal Background Check,
- Must understand and know campus and housing resources, and policies and procedures
- Must demonstrate a helpful, cooperative attitude in responses to questions concerning the University’s residence halls
Work Expectations/Hours:
- Available for both fall and spring semester including hours during University breaks
- Work Housing Recruitment Events such as Crash Day, Admission Open Houses, and/or Orientation Days
- Work an average of 5 to 15 hours a week
