University Housing Contract and Application 2027-2028

All students who wish to live in University Housing must complete the online housing application and sign a housing contract.

Application Fees and Prepayment

New Applicants
Students applying for housing for the first time must pay a non-refundable $35 application fee. This fee covers the cost of the background check and application processing. Returning residents who have previously lived in University Housing are not required to pay this fee again.

Required Housing Prepayment
All students must make a $250 housing prepayment through the housing application portal.

• The prepayment is required before access to the roommate and room selection process is granted in the housing portal.
• Failure to submit the prepayment by the required deadlines may result in the loss of a housing contract and/or room assignment.
• The prepayment will be credited to the student's account based on the information below

Both the application fee and prepayment are paid through the online housing application portal.

Prepayment Credit Process
The $250 prepayment is released to student accounts on two separate dates.

Initial Prepayment Release (Mid-May)
This release applies to students who paid the prepayment but canceled their housing contract before the cancellation deadline.

• The credit is applied to any outstanding balance on the student's account.
• If there is no outstanding balance, the student may receive a refund by check or direct deposit (if direct deposit has previously been established).
• Prepayments cannot be refunded directly to the original payment method.

Second Prepayment Release (Mid-August)
This release applies to all students who have an active housing contract and have paid the prepayment.

For students with active housing contracts:

• A $250 credit will be applied to their student account.
• The credit will reduce any outstanding balance or result in a refund if no balance remains.

For students who canceled after the cancellation deadline:

• The credit will offset the $250 cancellation fee assessed to their account.

For students no longer enrolled at YSU:

• The credit will be applied to any outstanding balance or issued as a refund if no balance exists.

Communication

All Housing and Residence Life communication is sent to students through their YSU email account. Students should activate and regularly monitor their YSU email to ensure they receive important updates.

New Applicants

New applicants must use their YSU email address and password to access the housing application portal. Students needing assistance with their YSU credentials should contact the IT Service Desk at 330-941-1595 or servicedesk@ysu.edu.

Roommate Selection
Depending on when you apply, you may complete a roommate profile within the housing portal. This profile allows you to:

• Search for potential roommates.
• Communicate with other applicants.
• Form roommate groups.

Once a roommate group is established, the group leader may select a room for the entire group based on the timelines below.

The $250 prepayment must be paid before roommate and room selection becomes available.

Students without a roommate will be assigned both a room and roommate during the summer. Partially filled rooms may receive additional roommates or residents may be reassigned to another room with available space.

Students who apply after May 7, 2027, will be assigned housing based on the information provided in their application. No room or roommate assignment will be made until the $250 prepayment has been received.

New Applicant Timeline

Important: The prepayment does not guarantee a specific room or roommate. Room assignments may change during the summer based on student requests, cancellations, or institutional needs. Students will be notified of any changes through their YSU email.

Returning Residents

Returning residents have the opportunity to select rooms and form roommate groups during the designated room selection period.

To select a room, students must be able to fill all available spaces within that room. Students without roommates will be assigned housing and roommates during the summer.

As with new applicants:

• The $250 prepayment is required before room and roommate selection becomes available.
• Applications submitted after May 7, 2026, will receive room and roommate assignments from Housing team via YSU email.
• No assignment will be made until the prepayment has been submitted.

Returning Resident Timeline

Important: The prepayment does not guarantee a particular room or roommate. Housing assignments may change throughout the summer. All updates will be communicated through YSU email.

Cancellation Fees

No Cancellation Fee
There is no cancellation fee for students who:

• Cancel a fall housing contract on or before May 7, 2027, or
• Cancel a spring-only housing contract on or before December 11, 2026.

$250 Cancellation Fee
A $250 cancellation fee will be charged to students who:

• Cancel a fall housing contract after May 7, 2027, but before move-in, or
• Cancel a spring-only housing contract after December 11, 2026, but before the January move-in date.

Students who want to request a contract cancellation should email housing@ysu.edu to request the cancellation form.

After Move-In
Students wishing to leave University Housing after moving in must complete a Request to Terminate Contract Form and may be subject to additional fees as outlined in the contract termination process.
