Job Description:

The position affords a graduate student significant professional experience to complement and build on the student’s educational development. The position affords the opportunity to experience and develop skills in: assessment and evaluation; accreditation and regulatory body requirements; extensive project management; faculty and staff training, development, and consultation; data collection, analysis, and presentation; marketing; and faculty, staff, and student relations.

Duties of the Graduate Assistant Internship will primarily focus on the assessment of student learning and survey administration, though some assistance with faculty development programing logistics will also be included. Duties rotate throughout the year based on the department activities. For example, the review of academic assessment reports typically occurs in the late fall, the administration of a large student survey happens in the spring, and the review of non-academic reports in the summer.  The Graduate Intern will work in a team setting to support a variety of ongoing continuous improvement projects in the Institute for Teaching and Learning. Duties include:

  • Assist in tracking of assessment reports and analysis of assessment data. 
  • Assist in administration of student survey research (e.g. National Survey of Student Engagement and Noel Levitz Student Satisfaction Survey) , including but not limited to social media marketing, recruitment of participants, outreach to student groups, review of quantitative and qualitative data, and creating and editing reports and presentations based on data.
  • Assist with updating the Institute for Teaching and Learning website.
  • Actively participate in all Assessment Council meetings (held twice throughout the semester). The Graduate Assistant Intern will help the Assistant Director to prepare for these meetings and produce meeting minutes.
  • Work with the Institute for Teaching and Learning team to implement and train campus stakeholders in the use of the electronic assessment tracking database, Taskstream.
  • Assist in administering professional development activities, including mini-grant selection, administration and reporting. Develop and deliver training on creating a mini-grant poster report.
  • Work with the Institute for Teaching and Learning team to provide training and support for online survey tool, Alchemer.
  • Collaborate with teams of faculty and/or staff on the Assessment Council to review Assessment reports, complete rubrics, and proofread all final versions of the rubric before sending feedback to chairs and program directors.
  • Keep records of all communication with the teams and maintain archive of when final rubrics are sent to the program coordinators and chairs.
  • Assist in focus groups or workshops on campus with members of the YSU community to collect and share information about student learning (e.g. alumni, faculty, students who participate in service learning opportunities).
  • Assist in projects as requested by the Assistant Provost that relate to student learning, assessment reporting, program review, survey administration, and other continuous improvement related projects
  • Meet weekly with the Institute for Teaching and Learning team to discuss office activities, and schedule and prioritize tasks.
